Senate hears finance propos
By Brandye Brown
Staff writer
The Student Senate referred to
committee the Student Government
Association Budgetary Process Bill
and the Election Regulations Revi
sion Bill Wednesday night.
Amy Magee, Rules and Regula
tions chair and a senior psychology
major, said the budgetary process
bill laid out the method used in the
Senate this year to appropriate
spending by Student Government.
“The process for allocation
worked very well this year,” she said.
“Previously, there was no set budget
policy, and often each president
handled it very differently. This bill
makes sure that there is an appro
priate appeals process for commit
tees who feel money should be allo
cated differently.”
The Election Regulations Revi
sions Bill would ban the use of
copyrighted symbols for campaign
material to avoid legal entangle
ments by student candidates.
Also, the Senate was given the fi
nancial position of the Winter Spir
it of Aggieland Committee estab
lished last year.
Kaycie Swain, an off-campus
senator and a junior political sci
ence major, said Winter Spirit of
Aggieland needs the support of
student organizations to meet its
proposed budget.
“Winter Spirit of Aggieland was
voted in unanimously by the Sen
ate,” she said. “It couldn’t have be
gun without Senate, and it can’t
continue without Senate’s support.”
The committee has $5,000 in
promised donations, but it needs at
least $15,000 to decorate New Main
Drive, Swain said.
Alice Gonzalez, speaker of the
Senate and a junior agricultural de
velopment major, said student or
ganizations can buy a tree for $100.
The organization will berei
with a wooden box at thefoj
tree with the name of the
