Aggies defeat UH Coug Travis V. Dabney Staff writer The University of Hous ton Cougars Volleyball Team realized it was in for a tough night after serving the first side out directly into the back of Cougar middle hitter Jenny Kniss. The Cougars recovered from that embarrassment and rallied to give the Texas A&M Volleyball Team a tough battle, but never mustered enough to gain a victory in any single game. The Aggies swept the Cougars by scores of 15-8, 15-7 and 15-1. The 12th Man was also out in force on last night as 1,274 Aggies came out to G. Rollie White Colise um and cheered on the Aggie Volleyball Team. “The 12th Man really helped out a ton tonight,” coach Laurie Corbelli said. “Our crowd was really fired up and it distracted the young UH team, no doubt.” In game one the Cougars stayed close with some superb defense and strong offensive play by Emily Leffers and Jenny Kniss. Midway through game one, the smiles on Farah Mensik, outsij ter Cindy LothspeiJ outside hitter Smedsrud led the] to a strong comebaj a 15-7 win. But the Aggies were led to victory by senior Jen nifer Wells. She picked up the Aggies when the score was 7-7 and led them with some strong serves as well as timely kills. “We have been extra fired up at the start of games here of late,” Wells said. “We like to get that early lead and set the pace for the match.” In game two the Aggies again struggled to gain a tight hold of the Cougars due to some excellent de fense. UH’s blocking schemes appeared to be very effective in keeping the Aggies offense at bay.
