“Don’t ignore the international information
and advice out there and think that it is the rest
of the world that needs to do the changing,”
Scardino said. “Acute sensitivity to business
customs, contracts and deals of whoever you
are dealing with is critical.”
Scardino said three trends contribute to the ex
pansion of business markets: explosion of in-
ternational hade, worldwide trend of deregulation
of trade and regional trade policies such as NAF
TA.
Pierce and Publishing Co. owns newspapers
in several countries, a television company,
amusement parks, software companies, wax mu
seums and Penguin Publishing Co. Scardino said
half of their revenue and staff is in the United
States.
Sunny Bhide, a first-year MBA student, said
Scardino provided a different view of interna
tional business.
“It is great to have the perspective of some
one overseeing huge operations that are not U.
S., it is much needed,” Bhide said. “The U. S. is
so big and powerful that we often forget other
people are very successful, but have different
opinions and methods.”
Sara Lloyd, a first-year MBA student, said
Scardino’s business experiences were valuable
for students to learn from.
"It helps me know what to expect in the busi
ness world and how to prepare myself,” she
said. “Her insight is valuable because she gave

Police continue search for suspect
The Bryan Police De
partment is trying to
find an unidentified
man for questioning
about an aggravated
sexual assault Sept. 25.
The BPD said the 22-
year-old victim said she
was assaulted by the un
known suspect, who had
a knife and was in her
home on E. 24th Street
when she came home at
4:30 p.m.
The victim described
the subject as a Hispan
ic male(possibly being
half African-American),
about 57” to 5’8”, 160-
170 lbs., medium skin tone, dark eyes, short curly hair,
with a slight moustache and a strong Spanish accent.
She said the suspect was wearing a purple T-shirt,
baggy black pants and black tennis shoes.

9/19/97- Criminal Mischief in the
Southside Parking Garage. A sharp in
strument was used to scratch a tic-
tac-toe game on the rear deck of the
victim’s vehicle.
9/19/97- Misdemeanor Theft in
the Koldus Building. A Gateway Solo
2300 laptop computer was stolen
from a second-floor room.
9/19/97- Minor in Possession of
Alcoholc Beverage in Parking Area
30. A citation was issued.
9/20/97- Minor in Possession of
Alcoholic Beverage in Parking Area
62. A citation was issued.
9/20/97- Minor in Possession of
Alcoholic Beverage in Parking Area
56. A citation was issued.
9/20/97- Public Intoxication at
Kyle Field. An intoxicated subject was
arrested and incarcerated in the Bra
zos County Jail.
9/20/97- Assault by Contact at
Kyle Field. A subject objected to the
victim’s movement and remarks dur
ing the playing of the National An
them. To control his behavior, the sub
ject grabbed the victim’s arm. The
victim considered this contact to be
offensive.
9/21/97- Public Intoxication on
Mosher Lane. An intoxicated subject
was arrested and incarcerated in the
Brazos County Jail.
9/21/97- Misdemeanor Theft at
Evans Library. The victim’s green
JanSport backpack, containing an as
sortment of property valued at $340,
was stolen from the sixth floor of the
facility.
9/21/97- Terroristic Threat at the
McKenzie Terminal. While processing
his luggage through the checkpoint,
the subject jokingly remarked about
an explosive device. The investigat
ing officer identified the subject and
advised him of the possibility of crim
inal charges being filed.
9/21/97- Medical Emergency at
Hensel Park. A subject used the
emergency telephone in Hensel Park
to call for medical assistance. The
subject had deliberately mixed alco
hol and a prescriptioh medication to
commit suicide. The subject was
transported to a local hospital for
treatment and evaluation.
9/22/97- Arson at Dorm 3. An8-
by-16 inch air filter soaked in some
type of accelerant was ignited and
slid under the victim’s door. The fire
was extinguished by the residents.
