AUSTIN (AP) — Texas center Ryan Fiebiger was looking for a couple hours of mindless relax ation this weekend when he accompanied his girlfriend to the flag football game of two small chil dren she was babysitting. But before Fiebiger could even get comfortable in the bleachers, he overheard two people behind him complaining bitterly about how badly Texas played in its now- infamous 66-3 loss to UCLA. “I didn’t say anything, but I’ve about heard enough,” Fiebiger said. ‘T’ve heard about it from friends, strangers, even my family. A lot of people are still upset about that loss. I hope we can get a cou ple wins and the fans will forget about that.” For Texas (1-1), which was ranked 11th at the time of “Rout 66” and suffered the most lopsided loss by a ranked team since The Associated Press poll began in 1936, the chance for recovery begins Saturday at Rice (2-1). The Owls, coming off a 40-34 victory over Northwestern, beat Texas the last time the two Houston in 1994. Teammates Diana Rowe and Heather Wiebe played on the team as well. They were one of the top club teams in the nation. As a result, Fendley said she received a lot of recognition and experience which has helped her excel at the college level. Fendley has been nicknamed, “The Hammer” by coach Guerrieri. “She makes a hard effort no matter what goes on at home which forces the rest of the team to play at their best as well,” he said. Fendley attributes her talent to time, patience and hard work. “I’ve had great coaches and now the players around me have helped me,” she said. Fendley also said that her mother has been an influent person in her life. “She has traveled with everywhere, she said.
