Dance T eam
Continued from Page 3
The dance team has been scrutinized in the
past by students who feel Texas A&M should not
be represented by cheerleaders at athletic
events.
Katie Floyd, a senior business analysis ma
jor, said she is not a big fan of the dance team.
“This isn’t high school,” Floyd said. “We don’t
need cheerleaders or a high school drill team.
What’s next, our basketball team running through
a big paper sign that they painted?”
Hart said the dance team is not a group of
cheerleaders.
“Some members of the student body think
that we are trying to be cheerleaders, which
they feel goes against tradition,” Hart said.
“We don’t cheer during the games. We perform
to support the team and provide entertain
ment for the crowd.”
Matzke said the dance team works in con
junction with the traditions at A&M games.
“We always follow the Yell Leaders,’’Mat
said. “Then we get out there to getthecn
enthused.”
Matzke said she is proud of the way the 4
team handles the negative comments.
“We talk about it, and then we drop it,"Ma
said. “The team is very mature about those!
of situations, and we don’t let it keep us from
ing our part.”
