Phlatlixiers spin local mi : hursday By Ryan Locker Staff writer T exas A&M’s small under ground following of raves and house parties is con tributed to by the Phlat Line Crew, a team of two brothers, Ronnie White (DJ Ron-E) and BJ. White (D-Jabe), plus Will Walker. The three DJs occasionally open their apartment on Northgate for their growing electronica parties. Recent mainstreaming of elec tronic music has made a name for The Chemical Brothers and brought Prodigy to Lollapalooza. It is these kinds electronica acts that are at the center of the groove of techno. This core vibe has the focus of Phlat Line Crew and Walker. They said they are not necessarily con cerned with the specific names of music, just its level of intensity. Ravers will hear some Chemical Brothers, Wink, Fluke and Prodigy at Phlat Line Crew’s productions, but these DJs are trying to bring some new grooves and funky breaks that are foreign to Bryan- College Station. Ronnie and B.J. White are not new to this scene, but rather have rejuve nated after the Genesis I and II raves they produced two years ago. These raves were of a larger va riety than the homespun “Con centric Groove”-series house par ties that have run at their apartment the past two Saturdays. The Phlat Line Crew’s Genesis Raves involved $1000-plus light shows and were held in ware houses. They were an emporium of mind candy, drawing thou sands clad in polyester, where the DJs are not the only ones who pimp their vinyl. So while some students are still sweating their Robert Earl Keen and Jackopierce tickets, another weekend option to keep in mind is the Super Yo-Yi Fly Productions RYAN LOCKER/The Br.
