After struggling through the first half of the season, the Lady Aggies have found their groove, winning 10 of their last 12 games, just eight games before Big 12 Conference Championships. In addition, the Lady Aggies have managed to compile a win ning record of 32-25, and recently beat two nationally ranked teams, including the seventh-ranked University of Oklahoma and 17th- ranked Oklahoma State University. However, before they take on their last Big 12 opponents this weekend, the Lady Aggies must first face the University of Texas- Arlington today in a doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington. Head Coach Jo Evans said the team is looking forward to its sec- ond-to-last non-conference double- header against the Lady Mavericks. “We want to make sure that we play at the level we have played at the past few weeks,” Evans said. “We are peaking at the right time, and I feel that our play ers are having fun, which is unusual at the end of the year. Although we are ready for it to be over, we are excited and hungry to play our best.” The Lady Mavericks have an overall record of 18-24 and have played 15 fewer games than the Lady Aggies. In addition, out of 72 total games between the two opponents, UTA “Our plan is to stay focused and keep on our roll of executing our offense and defense.” Robert McKay, The Battalion Senior pitcher Lori Gioco pitches against Sam Houston State. has only won 14. Senior first baseman Mya Truelove said, despite the fact the Lady Aggies have the obvious upper hand against their most common opponent, the team will not overlook the Lady Mavericks. “Right now, we are playing better than we have the entire year,” Truelove said. “Every aspect of our game has come together, and we don’t spend our time thinking about who we are playing, but instead focus on getting two more wins and staying confident. See Softball, Page 8 Tom Continued from Page 5 While this season perhaps has not gone as well as planned, Tori notes the improvements in his own game and his team’s games and sees a bright future for both. “I’m really looking forward to next year,” Tori said. “We’re going to have great players, [and we’re] going to be a good team. The guys that have been here have had time to get used to coach Cass. I changed some things in my game this year, and I hope by next year they will be totally incorporated and I’ll be able to put it all together.” Cass said that with the right instruction and continued hard work, there is no telling how suc cessful Tori can become. “I think Carlos is one of the best 30 or 40 players in the coun try, and right now, his rankings and results don’t show that,” Cass said. “In order for him to do that, his serve has to get better and he has to get better around the net with his volleys. Those are really the two things that could put him over that level. And I think if he improved anything else, he could be one of the best players in the country.” Class of 1997 Ring Dance and Senior Week T-shirts on Sale Now in the MSC from 10-2 UNDER THE WATER TOWER Texas at Holleman 693-6684 It just got cheaper for the Class of 1997 to go out!
