The Battalion
After losing four straight Big 12
Conference games last weekend
against the University of Kansas
and the University of Missouri, the
Texas A&M Softball Team is looking
forward to getting back into the
grove of things in a doubleheader
against Sam Houston State Univer
sity today in Huntsville.
The Lady Aggies have an overall
record of 22-23 and a Big 12 record
of 2-6, but the team is hoping to
add two more wins to that list
against the Lady Kats.
Assistant Head Coach Joy Jack-
son said the doubleheader will be
more of a confidence builder than
anything else.
‘‘We are looking forward to a nice
break with these non-conference
games,” Jackson said. “We are ex
cited to go up against pitching that
is not in the Big 12, which will hope
fully get us back into the groove we
were in before last weekend. Our
players will have the opportunity to
hit hard and make the big plays we
have been lacking.”
The Lady Aggies already have
beaten the Lady Kats twice tins year,
but senior first baseman Mya Iru-
elove said they will have to play the
Lady Kats as if they were the best
team in the nation.
“Anytime we play Sam Houston
you can’t take them lightly because
they really want to beat us,!
clove said. “Of course this will
nice breather and we shouldL
two wins from them, buteveryte
can have their best day anytimt
we have to expect that.” j
Senior outfielder HeatherHt
den said the Lady Aggies need:
take advantage of this opporte
by playing well in every inning.
“We always have onebadimt
in our games, and if we get
that mental-lapse inning we slml
do well,” Hayden said. “Thetear.
playing well and our catcher
doing well with throwing ped
out, so we are hoping to wai»
with more confidence than whan
go in with.”
Hudson
Continued from Page 7
Nelson said Hudson has positioned herself for a pos
sible NCAA berth.
“Right now she’s third in the Big 12,” Nelson said. “If
she stays strong and healthy mentally, then she’ll be
ready for the Big 12Tournament. The other ladies com
peting in the heptathlete will fall apart, but I know she’s
not going to.”
Hudson has an additional source of motivation this
season — her new training partner and younger sister,
freshman heptathlete Desi.
“I think it’s a big advantage because she’s constant
ly coaching me and telling me things as we train,” Desi

own. It really helps to have someone to train with
“We push each other a lot. It’s good for herandfon
Ceci said she has enjoyed training with
younger sister.
“It’s been awesome,” Ceci said. “Last year
wasn’t at A&M so we didn’t get to spend asm
time together as we’re used to. It’s been nice
mester to get to see her every day. We've ah*
been best friends."
Although the dynamic duo appreciate the time
have together, Ceci said she has to watch herselfto
from being an overbearing sibling.
“I have to backoff," Ceci said. “Even though it's®
some we do the same thing, I have to let her do her
thing. Sometimes I forget.”
