Voter’s Guide Wednesday • March i- ► Nolan Barkhouse ► Kendall Kelly Candidate for Cuss of '98 President Candidate for Class of '99 President Howdy! My name is Nolan Barkhouse and I’ve had the privilege of serving as president of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1998 during our junior year. I’m asking that you sup port me for re-election as we finally become seniors and set the tone for Aggieland into the next century. Our junior year has been one of the best ever; Elephant Walk was a tremendous suc cess, End-of-the-Year Bash and Boot Dance are being planned at this moment, and we’re well on the way to our fundraising goals for Class Gift. We’ve also created a homepage on the internet, a listserv and other initia tives to help disseminate information about activities and events. As president next year, I’m looking forward to start ing each semester right with Howdy Dances that sur pass those in recent years and ending the fall semester with an outstanding Senior Elephant Walk. The year will culminate with Ring Dance during Senior Weekend after the selection of our Class Gift during elections in the spring. My specific goals for next year include reaching our Class Gift goal of $98,000 and increasing participation and awareness about the multitudes of Class of ’98 activities. I am also committed to the Class Councils continuing to serve a vital role in the University for ser vice and representation of the students’ interests. I have worked hard this year on each of these issues and look forward to the opportunity to finish the job we started and make the Class of ’98 the best senior class in the history of Aggieland! u Live life as a journey, not a des tination.” This is something I aim to live by and the reason I have written this column. The destination of the Class of ’99 is to raise $99,000 by the time we graduate. We have crossed huge bridges with “Fahrfromwhoopin”’ t-shirt sales and “Whoop 99” window stickers in trying to reach our destination. Our journey is quite a different story. We have hit quite a few roadblocks in Participation Interstate 99. My name is Kendall Kelly, and I am running for Class of ’99 president. But you’ll notice on your bal lot that there isn’t anyone running against me. I am here because I want us to make this journey together. That’s why you’ve seen Interstate 99 flyers across campus with my name on them. That Interstate 99 sign is about the journey of the Class of ’99. That’s why I am here and that’s why you’re here at Texas A&M because we’re the only school that when asked “What class are you in?,” we don’t reply “history,” but we say “The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of Nineteen Hundred and Ninety-nine!!!” That’s what 99 pride is all about it’s not just about cruising through the MSC to buy our t-shirts or grabbing a window sticker on the way to class. I want you all to play a part in ’99 not just pay a part. I think Robert Hastings said it best, “Enjoy your journey... you’re destination will come soon enough.” I look forward to your participation. ► Jeremy Poland Candidate for Class of "00 President Howdy, Class of 2000. My name is Jeremy Poland and I am asking for you to elect me your class president. What should a class president be? I feel that a class president should be the best leader and representative of the class. Class Presidents should exemplify the aggie spirit and con stantly seek to bring pride to their class. I feel I have the determination and leadership abilities to serve as our President. From Fish Camp Counselor, Aggie Fish Club, and Vice President of our class, to Silver Taps and saying “HOWDY!!” I have lived the Aggie Dream this year. This past year I had the honor of serving as vicepresident on a outstanding council team. We not only broke, but nearly doubled the freshman fund raising record with our 21st Century Ags T-shirts and several other fund-raising projects. When we gradu ate I want our class to be the most unified class in Aggieland history. That unity starts with our presi dent, I want to plan three social events a semester for our class. A second goal I have set is to expand our e- mail list serve to keep the Class of 2000 informed. I want our class to be well represented at Big Event and Replant. And finally, our top priority as class council is to raise money for our class gift. I have set a goal of 20,000 dollars for next year and I believe this can be obtained. When you vote, remember experi ence, dedication, and leadership. Vote Jeremy Poland, #2 on the ballot for Class of 2000 President!! Thanks and Gig’Em!! ►Kara Wilson Candidate for Class of ; 98 Vice President Howdy! My name is Kara Wilson and I’m a candidate for the Class of 1998 vice president. I’ve served on Class Council the last three years and have enjoyed this oppor tunity immensely. If you wonder who I am, you may remember a masked face at our Junior Elephant Walk or possi bly the many toes I’ve run over in the last few years (accidentally of course). I am qualified to be your vice-president from the experiences I've gained in leadership positions in the Memorial Student Center, Student Government and Residence Hall Association. Initiative and motivation are two qualities I will demonstrate as the senior class vice president. We have had excellent participation at class activities and I would like to continue increasing the involvement in Class Council committees. I want Texas A&M University to remember the impact and changes we created for a more effec tive Class Council. This can happen by being visi ble to the student body and University adminis tration. We must be available as a resource to the Junior, Sophomore and Freshman Class Councils to foster team spirit and continue to work togeth er. I will make a difference to ensure the Class of 1998 will be both proud and strong! Vote Kara Wilson for class of 1998 vice president, #2 on the ballot! WHOOP ’98!
