MSC committee to host
lost and found auction
The Memorial Student Center Hospitali
ty Committee will hold a lost and found auc
tion today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the
MSC Flagroom.
Articles found in the Student Recreation
Center, Evans Library, West Campus Library,
the Wehner building, Heldenfels and Bus
Operations are turned in to MSC Lost and
Found and auctioned off at the event.
A professional auctioneer will be pre
sent and students will have the opportuni
ty to select and bid on lost and found items.
Participants will have about 400 items to
chose from.
Car accident causes
death of A&M student
Mary Jane Malone, a junior English ma
jor from Shreveport, La., was killed in an au
tomobile accident March 8.
Malone was driving westbound on US 84
in Rusk County when her car collided with
a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
The three people in the other vehicle were
injured and hospitalized.
Services for Malone were held March 9
in Shreveport. Malone was a member of
Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Con
ference on Student Government. She will
be remembered at Silver Taps April 1.

In 1917, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the eight-hour work
day for railroads.
In 1918, Congress approved Daylight Saving Time.
In 1920, the U.S. Senate rejected for the second time the
Treaty of Versailles by a vote of 49-35, falling short of the two-
thirds majority needed for approval.
In 1931, Nevada legalized gambling.
In 1945, about 800 people were killed as kamikaze planes
attacked the U.S. carrier Franklin off Japan; the ship, however,
was saved.
In 1945, Adolf Hitler issued his so-called “Nero Decree,” or
dering the destruction of German facilities that could fall into
Allied hands.
