TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Nellie Fox,
the star second baseman for the
Chicago White Sox, and former
Los Angeles Dodgers manager
Tom Lasorda were voted into
baseball’s Hall of Fame today by
the veterans committee.
Joining the two were former
Negro Leaguer Willie Wells Sr.
The vote ended a long wait for
the family of Fox, who died in 1975.
Twice before, he came close to mak
ing the hall.
“He missed last year by only one
vote, and only by a couple before
that,’’ said veterans comnte
member Yogi Berra, a Hall of Fat»
himself. “The guy played in 150
games or more over 18 years
That’s remarkable.’’
In 1985, 10 years after his death
from cancer at age 47, Fox finished
two votes shy of election — the
slimmest margin in the shrine’s histo
ry — in the balloting by the Baseba!
Writers Association of America.

Anderson
Continued from Page 7
“Fie gave me the confidence,’
Barone said. “He easily could have
said, ‘This freshman’s coming in,
he’s going to take five minutes
away, ten minutes away from me.
No one would have faulted him if
he took that in a bad way. But he’s
turned it into a positive.”
Brown shared the same view.
“Tracey helped me out in a
big, big, big-time way,” he said
“He’s played a big role and he’s
helped out.”
It has not
been only the
freshmen who
have gained
from Anderson.
His legendary
work ethic has
propelled his
teammates to
get the best out
of themselves.
Anderson
“Every single day he practiced
as hard as he could and set a stan
dard the rest of the team had to
follow,” said Coach Barone. “If
they didn’t practice that way, he
got on them.”
Anderson is walking proof thai
the old saying “you play like you
practice” is true. In the Aggies’ final
regular-season game against the
Texas Tech Red Raiders, Anderson
turned in one of the top perfor
mances of his career, scoring 21
points (one away from tying his
career high of 25) and adding four
steals. Anderson was 10 of 13 from
the field, including shooting four-
for-four from three-point land.
“He’s our engine,” sophomore
forward Shanne Jones said. “He’s
always got the fire, he’s always
going. Against Texas Tech, we were
losing and [Texas Tech junior guard!
Corey Carr was like ‘Man, why don't
you slow down?’ because Trace)
was still going, giving 110 percent."
The intensity and drive that
Anderson has shown throughout
his time at A&M will leave a lasting
legacy throughout the program.
“You can’t replace him,” Barone
said, “but you can build from him
Everyone can take a little piece of
his game. I think he’s more or less
left part of his game with us.”
