the party. Make sure no one is led away from your

5. Wear your seat belt—if s your best protection against
an impaired driver.

Safe sex flick answers call
Booty Call examines frustration with unique humor

This simple statement
has become the phi
losophy of many sexual adventur
ers in the ’90s. The film Booty Call
brings the message of safe sex to
the screen in a showcase of tal
ented and funny actors.
Set in Chinatown, this comedy
follows the adventures of Bunz
(Jamie Foxx) and Rushon (Tom
my Davidson), two young men on
a quest for sexual pleasure.
Rushon is the straight-laced,
suit and tie counterpart to
Bunz’s urban look, which in
cludes an orange shirt with de
tachable velcro sleeves.
The Holy Grail of their quest
comes in the lovely forms of
Lysterine (Vivica A. Fox) and
Nikki (Tamala Jones).
Both are educated, success
ful women, but at opposite
ends of the sexual spectrum.
Lysterine does not mind the oc
casional one-night stand, while
Nikki’s prudence keeps Lyster-
ine’s libido in check.
Rushon and Nikki have dated
for seven weeks without physical
ly consummating their relation
ship. With his advances becoming
harder to rebuff, Nikki asks
Lysterine to accompany them on
a date. To balance the situation,
Rushon asks Bunz to come along
as Lysterine’s date.
Before the date begins, it is
clear Lysterine and Bunz are as
mismatched a couple as Kerri
Strug and Hakeem Olajuwon.
However, a spark ignites be
tween the two and they quickly
abandon the chaste couple for a
sexual romp.
Nikki and Rushon soon lose
their inhibitions and start their
own sexual encounter. However,
Nikki puts the sex on hold for
both couples until Bunz and
Rushon can get condoms. The
rest of the movie revolves around
the quest for latex.

Jamie Foxx lends a self-depre
ciating sense of humor to the film
that brings it to life. His homely
looks and permanently crossed
eyes make Bunz even funnier. An
alum of the comedy television
show In Living Color, Foxx breaks
out of the constraints of the show
and shines in his first leading role.
But the real talent of the movie
is Vivica A. Fox. After starring in In
dependence Day and Set It Off, Fox
proves she is one of Hollywood’s
premiere actresses. Her comedic
powers are unquestionable in
Booty Call. Her beautiful features,
balanced with her character’s ag
gressive nature, light up the screen
with wit and charm.
The scenes with Foxx and
Fox bring the biggest laughs.
From a swearing contest in Chi
nese to really bad impressions
during sex, the two leave the
audience in stitches.
Davidson and Jones act as
wacky as their counterparts.
Davidson, also a former cast
member of In Living Color, still
has yet to prove his comedic
talents, but the young actor
shows extreme promise as a
leading man.
All four actors, on the whole,
present positive images of
African-Americans. They are edu
cated and articulate, but they also
do not abandon their ethnicity
for the sake of the movie.
The humor in Booty Call is
based on sexual nature, but it is
hilarious. It is refreshing to see a
movie that is proud of its vulgari
ty and flaunts it. The jokes in the
movie are original and the actors
deliver them with punch.
Although the film starts out
with a bang, it ends with a whim
per. The first hour of Booty Callis
a gasping scream of a comedy,
but the remaining time is devoted
to stereotypical sex jokes.
Occasionally the plot is con-
t rived and questionable, but the
film’s humor and stars makeup
for it.
While Booty Call’s urban humor
at times limits its audience, all
viewers can identify with the
themes of safe sex and abstinence.
Booty Call offers many unique
perspectives to the plight of sexu
ally frustrated males, but its in
sight into the urges of women is
what makes the film original.

The cooperative effort of disk golf
fans greatly contrasts with the com
petitiveness of many other sports.
One hole on the course is cut in
half by a pond, into which many
disks have been sacrificed. Occa
sionally, some disk golfers will wade
into the pond and collect the disks
that litter the bottom.
“In golf, you keep the balls you
find,” Gardner said. “But in disk golf,
the fishermen leave the disks on the
sidewalk, so the owners can come
back and claim them.”
Rodgers said the cooperative
spirit of the game has kept him in
volved for so many years.
“It’s the camaraderie that I en
joy,” he said. “We respect and get to
know one another.”
Rosenhauch enjoys the chance

“In other sports, you don’t get a
chance to communicate with the
other players,” Rosenhauch said.
“In disk golf, all you do is throw
the disk and talk to your friends
while you walk."
Gardner said disk golf is an ex
tremely easy game to pickup.
“All I did was walk up to someof
the players and asked them about
disk golf,” Gardner said. “Most of
them are out for a good time.There
