Being deputy chancellor is an in teresting experience, Sayavedra said. “This job is so diverse and complex, you never know what’s going to happen,” he said. Terri Parker, director of communications for the A&M System, works with Sayavedra on a dai ly basis. “Genuine” is a word she uses to de scribe him. “[Sayavedra] is a top- notch individual,” Parker said. “He gives everybody the same attention and he works well with in dividuals at all levels.” Making friends, Parker said, is one of the deputy chancellor’s pri orities. “Dr. Sayavedra is always there to lend an ear,” Parker said. “He culti vates relationships not only profes sionally but personally as well.” Sayavedra said to be successful in life, one should remained focused. “You’re only as good as the peo ple you work with,” Sayavedra said. “One should never compromise his or her integrity. And, by all means, protect your dignity. “Whenever you do something, do it to the best of your ability.” As for school, Sayavedra said students need to have a desire to succeed. “You don’t always have to make As, but you have to be committed,” Sayavedra said. “Peo ple . . . don’t always have to know what you want but when you get it, you need to know it.” Sayavedra said he is grateful for his success in life. “I have been a very fortunate individual,” he said. Frisbee said fire ants are attract ed to electrical transformers. Bobby Singletary, an engineering supervisor at Bryan utilities, said fire ants build up mounds in electrical transformers and can cause a short if the live parts are exposed. “We’ve opened up the lid of a transformer and its packed com pletely full of ants,” Singletary said. “The utility companies have to keep repairing the damage fire ants cause,” Frisbee said.
