As afternoon temperatures
dipped into the 30s, the Texas
A&M Women’s Tennis Team
overcame two opponents last
Saturday — the bitter weather
and Southwest Texas State
University, for the second match
of the spring season. The Lady
Aggies met up with Southwest
Texas at Omar Smith Tennis
Center and overwhelmed their
opponent with a 9-0 shutout.
A&M Woman’s Head Tennis
Coach Bobby Kleinecke said he was
pleased with the team’s success.
“I was really impressed with the
way they came out in singles,” he
said. “They took care of business
early, hit the ground strokes and
stayed aggressive at the baseline.”
The Lady Netters dominated
again in both the singles and
doubles competitions as they
had just three days before when
they faced the University of
North Texas. Freshman Kathryn
Scott, in her first singles compe
tition of the spring, defeated
Candy Gledhill 6-0, 6-0.
Likewise, both sophomore
Monica San Miguel and junior
Monica Rebolledo beat their
opposition 6-0, 6-0. Katy
Windham fell to junior Vanessa
Rooks 6-0, 6-1 and senior Julie
Beahm downed Tiffany Schmidt
6-0, 6-1. Senior Michelle Prejean
wrapped the singles matches up
with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Britany Mikeska.
The team missed a workout the
day before the game because of
weather conditions. Scott said
they knew they were going to have
to play well, despite their powerful
victory against North Texas.
“I think we did well consider
ing it was so cold,” Scott said.
"North Texas was a good match,
but we knew we had to come out
and be prepared.”

Tucker led the Lady Aggies in
scoring this season, averaging
13.8 points per game and grab
bing 2.7 rebounds. She also was
ranked fifth in the Big 12 in free-
throw percentage, connecting for
84.1 percent (70-86).
The three year letter winner
will be missed by the younger
Aggie squad, who looked to her
for leadership.
Harvey said the team needs to
step up and take responsibility for
their play.
“She’s (Tucker) tried to carry
this team on her back all year
