Barrientos said he wants language ensuring the faculty’s involvement in the process as well as am ple due process for professor’s facing dismissal be cause of an evaluation. “I think this will help get a good job done,” said Bill Cunningham, chancellor of the Univer sity of Texas System. “I don’t think our faculty is afraid to be evaluated.” Trial setting effected Routier outcome, attorneys say State Senate committee proposes bill for post-tenure review AUSTIN (AP) — A bill that would require post tenure evaluations of Texas professors moved out of the Senate Education Committee Wednesday with only one dissenting vote. Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos, D-Austin, voted against the bill, authored by Sen. Teel Bivins, R-Amarillo. It would require all tenured uni versity and college faculty to be subject to a comprehensive evaluation process at least every six years after tenure is granted. The evaluations would be based on several fac tors such as teaching, research and service, as de termined by the individual institution. KERRVILLE, (AP) — Darlie Routier’s fate may have been sealed the day her capital murder trial was moved to Kerr County. “This is the wrong place to try a case like this,” defense attorney Richard Mosty said after the Rowlett homemaker was sentenced to death Tues day for killing her 5-year-old son. “Kerr County is just too conservative for this,” said Mosty, a Kerrville lawyer. Indeed, Kerrville has a history of being tough on crime. And if questions are raised about the defen dant’s lifestyle — as they were about Routier’s — it could spell doom, experts say. Routier, 27, was accused of stabbing to death her two young sons June 6, 1996, at the family’s suburban home near Dallas. Prosecutors alleged she cut herself and staged a crime scene so she could blame an intruder. A seven-woman, five-man jury convicted Routier of killing 5-year-old Damon Routier. A separate charge for the death of 6-year-old Devon Routier like ly will be dismissed, prosecutor Greg Davis said.
