'Sul' Ross IV to be
laid to rest today
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Lawrence
Sullivan "Sul” Ross IV died Monday in
Ft. Worth, where he lived since 1946.
Ross was the great-grandson of
Lawrence Sullivan Ross, a former pres
ident of Texas A&M College in the
1800s. His great-great-grandfather
was Shapley Price Ross, a Texas
Rangers captain who was one of
Waco’s first eight settlers.
Lt. Col. Ross was born in 1920 in
Waco and graduated from A&M College
in 1942.
In the Air Force, Ross served as a
B-29 pilot in World War II. He also
served in the Korean and Vietnam
Wars before retiring in 1972.
Ross’ funeral will be held today in
Ft. Worth.

SAN MARCOS (AP) — The mother
of a nearly month-old boy born ad
dicted to cocaine faces a felony
charge of injury to a child.
San Marcos police issued an ar
rest warrant this week for 31-year-old
Sharon Crayton. Her baby was born
Dec. 29 addicted to cocaine and suf
fering from fetal alcohol syndrome.

New Modems at Texas A&M Boost Network Access
As a student at Texas A&M, you
will find that it is easier to access the
University’s modems for dial-up
access to the campus network and
the Internet
Dr. John Dinkel, Associate Provost
for Computing and Information
Systems at Texas A&M, has an
nounced that 336 additional
modems on the University Modem
Bank are available for dial-up ac
cess during the Spring semester.
288 new modems were purchased
with an additional 48 modems re
assigned to promote more efficient
use, thereby increasing the total
modems pool from 576 to 912.
The new distribution will use 816
modems for up to 33.6 kbps access,
64 for 14.4 kbps access and 32 for
“express” connections with a 10
minute limit CIS will continue to
limit the total connect time during
the peak hours to ensure maximum
availability, but also will continue
to provide an express connection
set of modems - with a 10-minute
limit - for quick access to checking
e-mail and for other limited time ac
tivities.
