Student dies of
severe asthma
William “Trey” Walker III, a
freshman biomedical science ma
jor and Phi Gamma Delta fraternity
pledge, died of asphyxiation from
an acute asthma attack on Jan. 8.
Walker and other pledges volun
teered to clean the fraternity
house that night. Around mid
night, Walker complained he was
having trouble breathing.
Phi Gamma Delta president
David Bethel said fraternity mem
bers are trying to cope with Walk
er’s death.
“We have lost a good brother,”
Bethel, a junior finance major said.
“He’s a great guy who’s humble
and sincere, and our condolences
go to the family.”
Funeral services were held Jan.

Tabloid returns
leaked photos
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A super
market tabloid that ran crime-scene
photos of slain 6-year-old beauty
queen JonBenet Ramsey agreed
Tuesday to return the pictures, along
with two others it didn’t publish.
In return, Boulder County
agreed to drop a lawsuit that
sought to block The Globe from
publishing any more of the crime-
scene photos, said Mike Kahane,
a lawyer for the tabloid.
The weekly Globe ran five pho
tos in its issue that hit news
stands on Monday. The photos
show a garrote — a cord-wrapped
stick that may have been used to
strangle JonBenet — and a rope
around one of her wrists.

Police testimony
stirs Routier trial
KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — Life
insurance policies and other family
records were found near the bod
ies of Darlie Routier’s two sons af
ter they were stabbed to death, a
police officer testified Tuesday.
Officer David Mayne also testi
fied marijuana was discovered at
the Routier home. Defense attor
neys immediately objected. Mrs.
Routier appeared to smirk and ju
rors were quickly ushered from
the courtroom.
State District Judge Mark Tolle
said he would instruct jurors to
disregard the officer’s statement
about marijuana. A seven-woman,
five man jury will decide Mrs.
Routier’s fate in her capital mur
der trial.
