Snow-colored dogs with coal-hued spots,
horses, pigs and more dogs await audiences in
Wait Disney’s 101 Dalmations.
In this live-action remake of the classic Disney
cartoon, Glenn Close stars as Cruella DeVil, a
woman obsessed with a love for animal furs.
Jeff Daniels portrays Roger, a computer-
game designer whose games have not seen a
successful venture.
Roger is an ordinary guy, living the single life
with his Dalmatian Pongo.

One fateful day, Roger befriends a woman by
the name of Anita (Joely Richardson).
The fact that she also owns a Dalma
tian brings the two together, and in
true Disney fashion, the two are
engaged to be married by the
end of their first meeting.
Everything seems fine
as Anita continues to
work for the feared and
wicked Cruella DeVil
until she discovers the
couple’s dogs are going to

With De Vil’s desire to have
fresh, fashionable clothes made of animal furs,
the lives of Anita and Roger’s puppies and other
•4'; Dalmations become endangered.

her character, but unlike the film’s promotional
ads, she is not seen enough to keep the
film above average.
Daniels and Richardson are
believable as a couple finding
love at first sight, but once
again, there just is not
enough on-screen participa
tion from the two.
101 Dalmations is a good at
tempt at a family film, but the Dal
mations are not as animated as they
were in the animated feature.
As Disney prepares to release Hercules nM
summer, it should take into account that the
movies leading up to the summer blockbusters
should also be worth watching. C+
