Mike Adams is a great re ceiver, and their tight end (Pat Fitzgerald) is a big-time player who can catch the ball. Brown is a threat as a passer and a scrambler that can bootleg and make big plays running the football, and (sophomore run ning back Ricky) Williams is one of the best players in the country. “I don’t envision us being able to stop them; I think we have to slow them down some. I don’t know how many, but we’re going to have to put some points down to have a chance to win this game.” A&M senior outside line backer Keith Mitchell said con taining Brown is the Aggies’ pri mary concern. “We have to get some pressure on Brown,” Mitchell said. “We have to contain this guy because, if we lose containment, he can scramble on us. And we have to get to him so he doesn’t have time to throw be cause they have good receivers.” The Aggies will carry the battle cry “Remember November” into Friday’s contest. A&M boasts a 25-1 record in Novembers under Slocum, including 24 consecutive victories. But in a rivalry where one win over your archrival can turn a disappointing season into a memorable one, the records and numbers amount to one thing — details, details. 1996 Big 12 Conference Football Standings W Conference L Pet. Mackovic said A&M had problems in the beginning of the season because of its youth and inexperience, but it is still very talented. “Their lack of experience at this level does make a differ ence,” Mackovic said. “But now I see a really good football team.” Akins said he is planning to face an improved Aggie offense that still counts on the strength of its rushing attack. “From an offensive standpoint, Mackovic they’re a good group,” Akins said. “They have a stable number of run ning backs. Any time you play A&M, you’re going to have to stop the run. They have a good receiver in Al bert Connell, and Branndon Stew art is a good quarterback. I think they’re better than last year.” Fitzgerald said the Wrecking Crew’s defensive front will be a challenge for the Texas offense. “They’re a good solid group (on defense),” Fitzgerald said. “We know they have a good de fensive line, so we might have to change some things up.” With the struggles both teams have encountered this season, one might think the game would be less important to fans. Akins disagrees. “I don’t think it should be,” Akins said. “Both teams are gelling right now. In a game of this magnitude, you’re going to see the hardest hitting and the strongest running.” \P 0 v* G* 0 . © \p \P Ls main contf nr main objeci Titchell said, les in practice unst Texas, )owl game, It’s that big to es gun down tustin, will the during the es?
