House
Continued from Page 1
The year-long project included the construction
of a landscaped pond stocked with fish and a large
courtyard patio with a Spanish-style fountain.
The nearly $1 million project was funded by
former students. Dr. Chester Reed, Class of ’47,
donated the funds for the house. The pond was
funded by C.E. Olsen, Class of ’23, and August
Bering, Class of ’35, donated the courtyard and
fountain.
Other benefactors include former students Les Ap-
pelt, Class of ’41, Pat Zachry, Class of ’22, Mike Hal-
bouty, Class of ’30, and Edward Mosher, Class of ’28.
A 6-foot wire strand fence protects the con
temporary-style home from cattle, horses and
sheep that roam the area.
The home was built with large common areas
to facilitate entertaining guests.
The guest quarters include a private kitch
enette and can be closed off from the res!(Ci
house for complete privacy.
Mrs. Thompson said there has only bed
instance where she felt uncomfortable intkt
years she has lived in the house — anumfl
encounter with a reptile.
"I looked out the window andsaww
like a 5-foot water moccasin,” Thompson si
told some people working in the yard aboutt
but I’m not sure if they killed it.”
