Bosquez said students in the medical
rofession can benefit from this course
ecause of the differences in cultures,
tudents should understand these dif-
tences to be sensitive to a patient’s
eeds, he said.
Gangotena said her goal is to provide
tudents with thought patterns to un-
erstand and interact with other.cul-
irfe without changing one’s own views.
Bosquez said the course gives future
aedical students a head start because
»y will be culturally aware when they
become physicians.
“Had they had this training prior, it
would have made a world of difference,”
he said. "Folks actually going into the
health field will have some knowledge
to help them interact with patients from
other cultures.”
This is the first time A&M has of
fered a course combining the studies
of cultures and medicine at the under
graduate level.
Gangotena said she is looking for
ward to the class because it offers so
much potential for success.
“I am going to have fun with the
class, and I think the students will
too,’’she said.
Ride-along
Continued from Page 1
He said that although only one arrest was made, several
minor-in-possession (MIP) of alcohol citations were issued.
“I’m really glad I went,” Starke said.
Brandon Casteel, president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fra
ternity and a senior international marketing major, said
he was excited about the ride-along.
“I thought it was pretty funny when I first thought
about it,” Casteel said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
Casteel joined two officers while they patrolled the
Northgate area on foot.
Jordan said the ride-along program helps the relation
ship between fraternities and police.
“If we can build a positive relationship by doing this,
then that’s a great accomplishment in itself,” he said.
