The tradi

A&M Head Coach Tim Cass said
renaming the tournament was to
honor Kent, who devoted so much
of his time and talent to A&M.
“Coach Kent did a tremendous
job here at A&M,” Cass said. "I
hope that through the naming of
this annual event, it would some
how show my and Texas A&M’s
appreciation toward him.”
Kent retired May 31 after 27 years
of coaching at the collegiate level
and 18 seasons with the Aggies. He
built a 516-223 overall record and a

Guerrieri said the rhythm the
A&M midfield set was an opti
mum pace for the team.
“The score at halftime was a
good comfort level for us," Guer
rieri said. “We needed to play this
well when we faced Baylor.”
Coming off a win against
Tech, the Aggies seemed to have
everything in place to face the
9-0-1 Lady Bears.
Although Baylor is a first-year
team, freshman forward Molly
Cameron, the nation’s lead scor

score Baylor’s only goal, increas

also held the Aggies scoreless in
the first half.
Koop said working with a
new offense was one reason the
Aggies were scoreless.
“These two games were a
matter of trial and error for us,”
Koop said. “We had to get used
to playing in the new line-up.
Baylor seemed to take us by sur
prise because they were more
fired up than Tech.”
Coming up short on 11 scor

Junior middle blocker Cindy

three-point run. She and junior
outside hitter Jennifer Wells both
blocked the Cyclone attack to give
the Lady Aggies the game and
match victory.
Junior setter Farah Mensik
recorded 51 assists, Sykora led the
team with 18 digs and Vander-
Woude blocked nine Cyclone at
tacks in the match.
Smedsrud garnered a match-
high 18 kills and hit for a .483 effi
ciency. Against Missouri, she
recorded 12 kills and hit .318.
The junior said she needed a
good performance to prepare for
the upcoming matches against
Nebraska and Colorado.
“I felt like [this weekend] was
real important for me,” Smedsrud
said. “I haven’t had real good per
formances the last few matches,
so I just wanted to go out and hit
as hard as I could.”
Senior middle blocker Page
