Vocalist Stephen Philp, 22, said the band will be thriving on im provisation when they play tonight at Vertigo with Baboon and Greenella. “It’s pretty much a free for all," Philp said. “We just let the pieces fall where they may.” A year ago, Philp joined forces with bassist Dave Morales, 22, and a drummer who quit the band after a few months. Soon af ter, the two adopted guitarist and philosophy graduate student G.K. Parish-Philp and played their first show with Soma. Chris Kline, the former Soma drummer and senior industrial engineering major, became Sat urday Night Moses’ drummer five months ago. “It’s such a jam free style,” Kline said. “The music comes from our hearts. We’re not playing to please anyone. We play for ourselves.” The four band members have different ideas of what the audi ence can expect from their live shows. “Pageantry adorned with spec tacle,” Parish-Philp said. “We’re not four guys in flannel just screaming onstage.” “Intensity — we like to make it a show,” Philp said. “It’s very in-your- face,” Kline said. “Ex pect to be shocked.” "Steve’s a freak,” Morales said. Parish-Philp said that the band has difficulty fitting in with the College Station audience. “We’re not the most compatible, classic College Sta tion band,” he said. “I guess we’re not very radio-friendly.” Despite the incompatibility, Saturday Night Moses was chosen to be featured on a soon-to-be-re- leased KANM compilation album. Although they have recorded the album and a four-song demo tape, they said they enjoy playing live the most. With influences ranging from Primus, Kottonmouth and Pink Floyd to German opera singer Frederick Nietzsche, Morales said 4 The Ba 4g< Peopl* rrey tic t with ANGELES iy has tied tf e Dumb anc been marriec irrey has als Ventura mo' Tim Moog, Tkm Saturday Night Moses members are (from left) G.K. "Playing a cover is insulting the audience,” Parish-Philp said.
