“It was close between [Horn]
and Andre to begin with,”
Bennett said. “It’s not a total
Slocum
demotion for
Andre. It does
n’t take me very
long to remem
ber the way he
played (in the
Alamo Bowl
last season)
against Amani
Toomer and
Mercury Hayes
in the
Michigan game.”
Slocum said the team is also
evaluating true freshmen
Brandon Jennings at safety and
Jason Webster at cornerback. Both
players could see action this
weekend — Jennings possibly in a
starting role.
“We need to take some of these
younger players and push harder
to get them some playing time,”
Slocum said. "At some point, we
might need these guys, and we’re
doing everything we can to get
them ready to play.”
A&M senior lineback Keith
Mitchell said the defense will have
its work cut out against USL.
“They’re a good passing team,”
Mitchell said. “It would be good
for the secondary and the defen
sive line to get their confidence
back with a good performance.”
While many people have been
quick to write off the A&M
defense, Aggie quarterback
Branndon Stewart said he and the
offense still have faith in the
Wrecking Crew.
“We have a great defense, and I
think everybody on the team
knows that," Stewart said. “The
guys on offense definitely respect
our defense because we [practice]
against them everyday.”
Mitchell said at least one posi
tive could be taken away from the
BYU game.
“Maybe it can'be an awakening
for us,” Mitchell said. “This is
going to really make us dig deep
and see what type of players we
do have and what we want out of
this season. This may be good for
us to go back and get it going.”

coach (Guerrieri) tells us,” Older
said. “I don’t think they are as
strong as some of the other teams
we have played, but then again,
we can’t take any team lightly if
we want to win.”
Following today’s matchup,
A&M enters a four-game home
stand of which two games will be
played this weekend.
“Even if we play an unranked
team, we still have to stay at our
level of play,” Guerrieri said. “We
are playing better than we have in
the past, and I am very pleased
with how we are improving. I
knew we would be this successful,
but our challenge will be to keep
on winning and improving.”

hard.”
It is Okler’s personal drive and
honesty with her team that made
her the 1995 A&M Perseverance
Award winner. The honor goes to
the athlete who never gives up, no
matter how tough the times get,
and inspires teammates to work
through adversity and over
achieve toward his or her goals.
Okler fits into the team’s overall
chemistry as well as
she fits its offense.
“Yvette is someone

Guerrieri said. "They
