If different is good, a new pub in
town discovered greatness.
The Burton Creek Pub and
Brewery is located next to Putt-
, Putt Golf on Texas Avenue.
Students scattered through the
two-story bar to throw mechani
cal darts, watch the 109-inch
screen television, play poker, or
experience interactive television.
The bar also offers 14 other
television sets to watch sports, an
official size shuffleboard, tradi
tional pool tables and a gift shop.
Donna Black, general manag
er, said customers are attracted to
the humidor room.
“No other bar in town has a
room to purchase and then
smoke cigars,” Black said.
“Professors and students both-
seem to enjoy smoking cigars in
the cigar room. Cigars are the
new thing today.”
The cigar room, set with
maroon leather couches, a black
bearskin rug and a suit of armor, is
the site for poker games and chess.
R.E. Hopkins, a senior agricul
tural development major, said
Burton Creek Pub is a mellow
alternative to other bars in Bryan-
College Station.
“I think it appeals to a more
social, yet relaxing atmosphere,”
Hopkins said. “We can come here
now to enjoy a fine cigar and a
fine beer without worrying about
fighting the crowd.”
Black said the idea for a unique
pub came to her one night while
drinking in another bar.
“I was sitting in this club look
ing around me,” Black said. “ I
kept thinking, if I had a bar, I
would do that different. I finally
had so many unique ideas that
we said, ‘Why not?’”
Brian Perry, president of the
corporation, said the club is
named after a creek in Bryan.
“Our initial location was next
to Burton Creek in Bryan,” Perry
said. "When the city of Bryan
decided they did not want a col
lege bar in that location, Joe
Ferrari contacted me. He sold his
restaurant, Ferrari’s, and we think
it worked out 100 percent better
for us.”
Perry said the management
tried to plan activities and spe
cials for every night of the week.
“We provide live entertain
ment, dart tournaments, Monday
night football, and working
women’s Wednesday,” Perry said.
“Different activities help to please
all the different kinds of people
we cater to.”
Scott Schumacher, a bartender
at Burton Creek Brewery and a
junior corporate fitness major,
said he thinks students will enjoy
the atmosphere.
“It is a very large place with
something for everyone,”
Schumacher said. “We work hard
to please people. Once we start
the brewery, we will have 30 kinds
of beer to offer. But if we don’t
have a certain beer that you
want, we will go find it, and start
carrying it.”
The homemade brews will
include pilsner, ale, porter and
raspberry wheat. The brewery
can be seen through glass win
dows in the back of the bar.
Robyn Parish, a senior speech
communications major and wait
ress at Burton Creek, said she
remembers all the names of stu
dents who frequent the bar.
“If you come in here often
enough everyone will know your
name, and even what you
drink,” Parish said. “It is just
like Cheers!”
Decorations are set up to make
each room a different sport.
Baseball, football, basketball and
other sport paraphernalia cover
the walls in the pub.
“If you like baseball, drink in
the baseball section of the bar,”
Black said. “We tried to make
each nook and cranny unique. We
even painted credit cards all over
the women’s bathroom, because
we know shopping is the ladies’
favorite sport.”
Male visitors can’t miss the
decorations in the men’s bath
room. Each urinal is complete
with the pub’s slogan, "Where the
Good Times Flow.”
Perry said the slogan applies to
more than restroom decoration.
“We like our slogan, ‘Where
the Good Times Flow’,” Perry
said. “We have put it on our T-
shirts and other souvenirs. The
good times flow in with the beer,
the sports, the people and the
unique atmosphere.”
