LBJ office space
may be preserved
AUSTIN (AP) — U.S. Sen. Kay
Bailey Hutchison has proposed a
plan to save the former Austin
offices of one of the greatest
Democrats in the state’s history,
Lyndon Johnson.
Hutchison says she is urging
federal and state officials to pre
serve the Austin office as it was
when Johnson used it during and
after his presidency.
The space — more than 2,000
square feet decorated in lime and
gold — should be saved to “pre
serve an era we will never see
again,” she said.
The office on the ninth floor of
the Austin Federal Building was
used by LBJ from 1964 to 1971.
There, he met with government
officials, relaxed in a sitting room
and wrote part of his memoirs.
