NEW YORK (AP) — Superman
actress Margot Kidder, found
dazed and filthy in a Los Angeles
back yard in April, says she is
“much humbled” and feeling fine.
In her first interview since the
episode, the 47-year-old Kidder
told Barbara Walters on ABC’s
20/20 that she has suffered for
years from manic depression.
“It wasn’t my mood swings that
alarmed me as much as the
altered states that I would go
into,” Kidder said in the interview,
which airs Friday. “I likened them to
LSD trips without the LSD.”

Tech may gain top
state health official
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — The state
could lose a second high-ranking fig

Chancellor John T. Montford decides
to pluck Texas’ top health official.
State Health Commissioner
David R. Smith is “pondering the
possibility” of becoming the first
president of the Texas Tech Uni

he told the Lubbock Avalanche-

“I’ve got to weigh some family

Montford already said he plans
to recommend to school regents

Donald Haragan, a finalist for the
chancellor’s job, become the per
manent president of the university.
National Guard

CORSICANA, Texas (AP) — A
small, twin-engine plane crashed

from Houston’s Hobby Airport to
Love Field in Dallas when the pilot
reported engine trouble about
2:30 a.m.
The Texas Department of Public

Corsicana’s municipal airport but
crashed about three-quarters of a
mile from the northern edge of the
field into a resident’s front yard.
DPS Sgt. Kenneth Authier said
the plane was owned by GTA Inc.
of Dallas and was carrying bank
documents.
A GTA spokeswoman who
identified herself only as Bonnie
said she could not confirm any
