tween, The Maps have proved
to be the best blues band
Bryan-College Station
has seen.
What makes The
Maps different is the
emphasis placed on
the music, rather than
the lyrics and vocals.
The Maps, an all-
Aggie band, formed in
September 1995 to cre
ate a group different
from the local bands.
Guitarisl/vocalist Kenneth S.
Tramm has been aching to get
a successful “jazzy- bluesy-
rock” band together for quite a
while. In his classes in high
school and at A&M, he used to
draw maps of the fretboard of a
guitar in his classes, giving the
band its name.
Tramm projects a funky blues
sound through his rhythmic guitar
skill. The sound is supplemented
by drummer/percussionist Gabriel
Cortinas and bassisVbackup vocal
ist Herb Mayfield.
Cortinas, who is also a drum
mer for the local band Lewis, is
energetic and versatile, adding
to Mayfield’s funky, meticulous
bass technique.
The Maps recorded its first,
13-song album, Directional Over
tones, in April and May. The al
bum has already been released
soon be distributed statf
and eventually nationwii
Midwest Records.
The album is brillii
mixed by conveying alltl
fects of live music. In fac
album version of the song

ever performed it.
An inscription inside tl
bum cover says, “We wa
these songs to be as vil

takes, emotions and
there. We hope you can fa
of that in there, too.”

Delivering tomorrows health care totk]
July 1996
Dear Scott & White Health Plan Member:
To provide personalized, comprehensive, high quality health care at a rea
sonable cost is the mission of the Scott & White Health Plan. In order for
us to realize our mission in Bryan/College Station, it has become necessary
for the Scott & White Health Plan to re-evaluate its relationship with both
Brazos County hospitals. Effective September 1, 1996, the St. Joseph
Regional Health Center in Bryan will be the exclusive provider of inpatient
health care services for our membership in Bryan/College Station. The
Health Plan has made this decision only after a great deal of thought and
analysis.
duk
We hope you will appreciate our desire to stay on course with our mission
which is to provide you and your family with personalized, comprehensive,
high quality health care at a reasonable cost. We believe our partnership
with the St. Joseph Regional Health Center helps us accomplish this. If
you have any further questions or comments, please call our Bryan/College
Station Health Plan Office at 409-268-7947 or 1-800-791-8777.
Sincerely,
John W. Roberts, M.D.
