They are going to ask how easy it is to buy alcohol under 21 here and we are going to an swer them. If they asked the same question to an OL right next to Dr. Southerland they might not feel like they would get an honest answer.” Vickery said orientation leaders have been trained to deal with parent’s questions and the first parent/student panel will be held today. Lisa Gonzalez, an orientation leader and senior business major, said she has wanted to be an OL since she observed them during her own orientation. “I was very impressed when I went through (Ori entation),” Gonzalez said. “Everyone was so willing to help and friendly. I wanted to be a part of it.” Gonzalez said this year’s orientation training has stressed multiculturalism, diversity, and the fact that Orientation is not only for freshman. “They want to make us (OL’s) aware there are, many different groups and to include everyone; handicapped students, adult students, but not to focus on just one group.” 102, No a< LEARN TO FLY NOW At United Flight Systems THE EXPERIENCED FLIGHT SCHOOL Learn to fly with the Cessna Pilot Center Exclusive Integrated Flight Training System Jjtm Cessna Private thru advanced training Aircraft rental Our New Location: College Station Easterwood Airport 409 260-6322 Pilot Shop F.A.A. approved 141 school VA eligible Benefits Tuition Continued from Page 1 Clancy said the fund is designed for the benefit of the parents. “Comptroller Sharp comes from a family with several children and remembers his family talking about how to afford college,” Clan cy said. “His family was solid mid dle class but was too wealthy to qualify for need based scholarship and financial aid. But he had too little money to feel comfortable. The program is for middle class families like his own.” Nicole’s parents, Belinda and Dana Rich, said the reasons above are why they invested in the fund. “Nicole wants to go on to den tistry school,” The Riches said. “We got the first four years out of the way, and now we’re plan ning her doctorate work. We feel relieved now that we’ve got that out of the way. It’s a great alter native to parents if they’re mid dle or upper middle class. Chances are, their child isn’t go ing to get financial aid. It offers other alternatives that meet their financial needs.” Nicole said she is glad her par ents decided to utilize the fund. “My parents wanted to sign up so that my college would be paid for and they wouldn’t have to deal with the financial wor ries of that,” Nicole said. “They signed up at the beginning of May. I think it’s beneficial be cause it helps parents and who ever uses the fund not have to worry and think they have to come up with the money to pay for college every year.” The Riches said when Nicole chose to attend A&M, it helped them decide to use the fund. “Nicole knew she wanted to go to A&M,” the Riches said. “Since she knew she wanted to go there, we knew we could pay her tuition )0! at today’s prices. If it goes up four percent next year, we’ve already saved that money. Who’s to say how much it’s going to go up over ] the next four years. All we have to pay is room and board.” The fund has already received an enormous amount of response. “The response has been tremendous,” Clancy said. “We opened the fund from January leather R through March.
