Less dorm space available for fall Corrections: • A March 25 Page 2 news brief should have stated that Ross Perot will speak in Rudder Auditorium today at 7 p.m. • The quotations in the first four paragraphs of a March 25 Page 1 story about the Women’s Week luncheon should have been attributed to Ruthe Winegarten, keynote speaker. March is National Women’s History Month, and the final week in March has been designated Texas A&M Women’s Week. • In The Battalion’s Mon day Pullout Voter’s Guide, Je remiah Williams should have been listed as running for Ju nior Yell Leader. On-campus housing will decrease by 226 places next year By Lisa Johnson The Battalion The number of spaces available for Texas A&M on-campus housing has decreased by 226 for Fall 1996. The change is due in large part to the rever sion of Briggs Hall to Corps of Cadets housing and the consolidation of the balcony halls: Keathley, Fowler and Hughes. The number of spaces available after residents renewed their housing contracts is down from 3,471 in F’all 1995 to 2,744 for Fall 1996. The number of spaces in Mosher Hall will de crease by four for the fall because of the addition of a second resident director. Darby Roberts, area coordinator for the Depart ment of Residence Life and Housing, said the addi tional resident director in Mosher, a female dormi tory that houses primarily freshmen, is different from anything that has been attempted before. "We are putting in a second graduate student part-time resident director because we see a for more staff in the dormitory,” she said. approximately 90 percent of the residents being freshmen, they have a lot more needs thatneedto be attended to by the staff than the residents o[ the dormitories that house mostly upperclassmen.’ The second director will be housed in a suite ol: rooms on the basement level of Mosher, with perma nent accommodations to be arranged in the future. Roberts said Residence Life and Housing hopes to create a full-time second resident director foi Mosher, like those in Eppright and Lechner Halls. Ron Sasse, the director of Residence Life am Housing, said such additions may be made to other dormitories in the future if they are deemed necessary. “It’s really difficult to decide which dorms need full-time residence directors and which only need graduate students who are part-time direc tors,” he said. He said the new Keathley-Fowler-Hughescom plex will have a full-time director because of its large size. The co-ed complex will house more See Housing,!
