SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Karl Malone scored 29 points, surpass ing the 23,000 plateau for his ca reer, and the Utah Jazz beat Dal las 103-86 Monday night for the Mavericks’ 11th straight loss. Scott Brooks led Dallas with 16 points, but 13 of those came in the fourth quarter when the Jazz led by no less that 11 points. Jason Kidd added 13 points. Jim Jackson (four points) and George McCloud (seven points) of Dal las each went l-for-9 from the floor. Jeff Hornacek scored 17 points and Utah won its fourth straight and 17th straight home game to re main within two games of Midwest Division leader San Antonio. Utah scored the first 11 points of the game and built a 17-4 lead. Dallas scrambled to 40-35 after an 11-2 run late in the second quar ter. But a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer gave Utah a 49-39 lead. The Jazz ran the score to 75-52 with 2:26 left in the third period. Astros crank up offense, nip Reds, 10-9 KISSIMMEE, Fla. Cincinnati scored two un earned runs in the fifth inning to make it 9-6 before Biggio singled home Orlando Miller to give Houston a 10-6 lead.
