Gymnastics team captures
second Conference title
The team will compete at Nationals this week

On Saturday, the Texas A&M Gymnas
tics Club Team defeated UT, SWTSU and
Texas Tech to capture its second straight
Texas Gymnastics Conference Champi
onship title.
A&M’s Denise Bean captured the Indi
vidual All-Around title, defeating 1995
National Champion Alisa Austa of the
University of Texas.
This week, both the men’s and women’s
teams will travel to Miami University in
Ohio to defend the National Title they won
last year.
In the All-Around individual competition,
A&M’s Denise Bean and Michele Bergeron
placed first and fourth, respectively.
The A&M men’s team had Shane
Thompson place first in the floor exercise
competition and third in vaulting. Kevin
Daily came in first in vaulting and third
on the high bar. And Dan Luellen had a
third-place finish on the parallel bars.
The women’s team dominated the vault
ing competition, with Denise Bean and
Michelle Bergeron placing first and third.
A&M also swept the floor exercise
event, with Bergeron taking first, and
Bean and Shanna Wilkinsen capturing
second and fourth.
Bean took first place in the uneven par
allel bars, and Wendi Craft stole the show
with her first-place performance on the
balance beam.
Saturday’s competition attracted
around 200 spectators and featured a
special exhibit from 1992 Olympic Gold
Medalist and World Champion Henrietta
Onodi.
