Student loan repayment 3. Part-time income The Army Reserve Alternate Training Program is a smart way to pay for college. First, if you qualify, the Mont gomery GI Bill can provide you with up to $6,920 for current college ex penses or approved vo/tech training. Second, if you have—or obtain—a qualified student loan not in default, you may get it paid off at the rate of 15% per year or $500, whichever is greater, up to a maximum of $10,000. Selected military skills can double that maximum. Third, you can earn part-time money in college, and here’s how it works: One summer you take Basic Training, and the next summer you receive skill training at an Army school. You’ll earn over $1,500 for Basic and even more for skill training. Then you’ll attend monthly meetings at an Army Reserve unit near your college, usually one weekend a month plus two weeks a year. You’ll be paid over $105 a weekend to start. It’s worth thinking about. The biggest worry at the be ginning of the season for the coach and the players was maintaining consistency. But they took care of that problem very quickly by defeat ing Southwest Texas and Tulsa University on Feb. 23-24. Kent said all the team has to do now is expand on its 4-1 overall record and use its winning streak as a base for upcoming matches. “We have a lot of the same players we had last year, but now they are more mature and have come through as leaders,” Kent said. “This quality is defi nitely helping us when it comes down to competition time.” With this in mind, it is no wonder that the team is on a role. However, the players feel A&M Judo team rolls on in conference □ A&M won five gold, two silver and one bronze medal for a to tal of 35 points. Staff and Wire Reports This past weekend the A&M Judo Team continued its dominance of the Texas Collegiate Judo Conference by winning its fifth consecu tive title. A&M won five gold medals, two silver and one bronze, giving the team a total of 35 points. The University of Texas was a distant second with 14 points and Southern Methodist University finished third with eight points. Leading the way for A&M was junior Robert Danin. The team captain won the 156-pound division title for the third year in a row. Second-place finishers in cluded Brian White and Go Shibata. All eight competitors have qualified for the National Collegiate Judo Champi onships at San Jose State University from Mar. 8-12.
