Sailing team breezes past competition □ The A&M Sailing Team took first in two regattas Saturday. By Christina Laughlin Special to The Battalion Apparently, you can be in two places at once. The Texas A&M University Sailing Team proved the point, Saturday, winning regattas in Houston and in Springhill, Ala. Rice University sponsored the Frozen Butt regatta at the Houston Yacht Club and fin ished in a first-place tie with the A&M team. Springhill University in Al abama held the Dinghy Quali fier #2 regatta at the Mobile Yacht Club and A&M sailed away with an overall first. Racing at Springhill quali fied the Aggies for intersec tionals including the Truxton Umsted at the U.S. Naval Academy, the Admiral’s Cub at Kings Point and the Thomp- som Trophy at the United Swift Continued from Page 7 players, or worse, their jobs. Few coaches, such as Florida State University Football Coach Bobby Bowden, or Indiana University Basketball Coach Bob Knight, have enough prestige to endure losing top-caliber players. Barone and Groff, however, showed their class this week by averting this type of situation. The communication will ideally States Coast Guard Academy A&M Sailing Team membti Julie Dalton, who crewed in the B division at Springhill, was very excited with the team’s performance sf Springhill. “It was awesome because we won a big qualifier ani we’re going to Annapolis,” Dal ton said. Samantha Elliot, the team’s public relations coordinator crewed the A division in Hous ton with skipper Christina Laughlin. Elliot said that most teams do not have enough good sailors to have a strong show ing in more than one place at a time. “For the Texas A&M Sail ing Team to have finished so well at both of the regattas proves that we’re in the top of our division,” Elliot said. “Also to be a part of the only all-fe male sailing team in A divi sion is exciting, rarely do you see two women together in A division out on the water at a coed regatta.” facilitate relations between the coach and the players, so that nothing as ugly as a player leav ing will occur. The players deserve kudos as well. Instead of taking any hot headed action, the team decided to express their concerns in words. The solution, in turn, will come in the same manner. Perhaps the council will make Barone a better coach. Regard less of whether it does or not, the council will definitely move A&M basketball into the new era of sports — the respect era. 12iMAN F O U N D A T I O N SUPPORTING EDUCATION THROUGH ATHLETICS Earn A Generous Paycheck, Work Flexible Hours, and Help Aggie Athletics!
