Page 6 • The Battalion Campus Wednesday • February 21^ Quilt Continued from Page 1 “Although they are gone, we will forever mark them present in our hearts,” the quilt reads. The patch was displayed at Tuesday’s night “Friendship in the Age of AIDS” performance at Rudder Theatre. Tanya Williams, a student af fairs and administration gradu- ate student who worked on the patch with Jasek, said submit ting a patch from the University exemplifies Aggie spirit. “All Aggies have a place in their hearts for other Aggies, and this is a way for us to honor them,” Williams said. She said she hopes the patch will raise AIDS awareness among students who think they are invincible. “It is time to open our eyes,” she said. “It’s time for us to confront it.” The AIDS quilt was displayed in Washington, D.C., in 1987 when it had only 2,000 patches. When the quilt returns to the District of Columbia in October, it will have over 30,000 patches. Jasek said seeing the quilt with its thousands of patches is an emotional experience. “It’s very sad, but it’s very moving that people don’t forget, ” he said. “It helps me realize that there are people that can accept that someone has AIDS and not turn away.” Jasek said the patches reflect how special AIDS victims are to the makers. “You can feel their pain,” he said, “and you can also feel the happiness of that person’s memory.” Charles Triplett, project coor dinator of AIDS Services of Bra zos County, said the number of AIDS cases reported in Brazos County is misleading. The state reported 80 ADj cases in Brazos County 1981 to 1994, Triplett said,}. AIDS Services of Brazos CouJ ty has a client base of over® people. “The way AIDS reportingj set up, cases are reported county of diagnosis,” Triple; said. “But a lot of people trat- outside the county to be testa; The state figures for our com. ty are much lower thanisaett ally the case.” The Wed Februs spi ES Bud to p< The sored b Bryan, the Te: basked ColiseL The halftim velocit taking corned The when their p handlii the Un The than fi millior history The audier leges e ly eve teams, ances foreigr Micl NC/ AN Michi volvec on the Detro NCAA too far “It penec until \ we're Craig compl An on of with < withir The p than tl Th Satur Tayloi grand Limite Ah r Rober f / forwa !
