Correction
In a Page 1 story Thursday, an
anonymous source who said A&M's
steam tunnels were once part of the
Underground Railroad was not in
cluded in Michelle Lyons’ original
story. The source’s information,
added by the section editor, is histor
ically impossible.
In a Page 2 story Thursday about
Fred Thornberry’s Congressional
campaign, a quote from Heather Er
win should have read, “And he prob
ably doesn't support welfare and
probably isn’t pro-choice.”
The cities of Bryan and
College Station proclaimed
Saturday “Bob Wiatt Day”
and honored the University
Police Department director
with a party at the College
Station Hilton.
Wiatt, who has served as
UP19 director for 13 years,
was the guest of honor Satur

Brazos County Rape Crisis
Center Inc.
Wiatt, who helped establish
the center in 1983, has served
as its president and as a mem
ber of its board of directors.
Friends and associates of
Wiatt’s were on hand to offer
roasts and toasts, sharing
amusing stories and memo

Jim Koboviak, attorney in
Brazos County and master of
ceremonies, said his friend

ago when
Wiatt was one
of his instruc

Koboviak

received training, at one time
or another, from Wiatt.

“Because he is

said. “It (was) a
free-for-all in
barbs, hopefully
all in good taste
and good fun. The
best part of the
show (was) his
chance to rebut.”
Wiatt said he
enjoyed the
friendly teasing.
“I get to rebut,
which means I
will tell lies on
people who told
lies on me,” he
said laughingly.
“A lot of people
probably think
I’m retiring or
maybe even expiring. After
(tonight’s roast) it’s going to
be a firing, after President
Bowen hears all those stories
about me.”
