Late run propels Horned Frogs
past Ag Basketball Team, 80-76
□ Aggie freshman forward
Calvin Davis enjoyed a
career game.
Staff and Wire Reports
The Texas Christian
Horned Frogs outscored the
Texas A&M Men’s Basketball
Team 7-2 in the final 1:52 of
the game and defeated the Ag
gies 80-76 Wednesday night.
The loss dropped A&M to 9-
9 overall and 1-5 in Southwest
Conference play this year.
The loss took away from a
career performance from A&M
freshman forward Calvin
Davis. In just 29 minutes of
play, Davis scored a team-high
21 points and grabbed 13 re
bounds, including seven off the
offensive glass.
In addition, Davis blocked
six shots, a season-high for
A&M and was the most by and
Aggie since David Harris re
jected nine Baylor Bear shots
in a game in 1990.
Down 73-70 with 1:01 left in
the game, Davis brought the
Aggies back with two foul
shots and a slam dunk follow
ing a Kyle Kessel miss to give
A&M a 74-73 lead with 49 sec
onds left in the game.
But the Frogs came back
with a free throw by guard
Juan Bragg and a 15-foot
jumper from Saipele Tuialii to
give TCU a five-point bulge
with just eight seconds re
maining in the game.
In addition to Davis’ fine
performance, the Aggies were
Cory Willis, The Battalion n
Texas A&M junior forward Tracey Anderson and his teammates will
hope to rebound from Wednesday's loss against TCU.
led by junior forward Gary
nottingham, who appeared ful
ly recovered from a groin in
jury earlier in the year.
Nottingham recorded his
third double-double of the sea
son with a career-high 20
points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Kyle
Kessel tied his season high
with 10 assists, and forwards
Dario Quesada and Tracey An
derson each added 10 points.
The Horned Frogs were led
by guard Jeff Jacobs, who
nailed 6-of-lO shots from the
field en route to 21 points and
six rebounds.
Also posting big numbers
for the Frogs was guard An
thony Burks who canned 3-of-
5 three-pointers and finished
the game with 16 points, seven
assists and two steals.
The Frogs led 44-38 at half
time, but A&M rallied in the
second half on the strength of
a 12-5 second half run, capped
off by a layup by Nottingham
to give A&M a 50-49 lead with
15:50 left in the game.
But the Frogs regrouped
and took the game at the
Daniel-Meyer Coliseum before
a crowd of 4,783.

Continued from Page 7
So by the time I’m done with my warm-up, I’m
already winded with a sharp pain in my side and
can barely get out a half-hearted “here” when the
instructor calls roll while we stretch.
Then there are the ultimate sources of humilia
tion — the timed runs. We had our first one on
Monday. Luckily, this one wasn’t for a grade, it was
just so that we could “see where we’re at” before we
have to run it for a grade.
I wanted to tell my instructor that I didn’t
need to run it because I could tell her where I’m
at — last place. I ran it anyway, a timed mile
that I was supposed to run in seven minutes.
Needless to say, my time exceeded, greatly ex
ceeded actually, seven minutes.
That wasn’t the humiliating part though. What
was humiliating about this run was the fact that
the instructor wanted to make some announce
ments afterwards. So as I finished my mile, in last
place as I predicted, the rest of the class was al
ready done and standing around the finish line
watching me as I half-ran, half-dragged myself
across the finish and listened to the instructors’ an
nouncements between blackouts.
My strength training class is another story. 1
There are about 40 guys and eight girls. Normally,
I would like those odds; however, I doubt that any
guy would be impressed with my weight-training
prowess. You can’t blame a girl for trying though.
Anyway, we are in the process of doing skills
tests in this class. These tests include pull-ups,
dips, a two-minute sit-up test, bench press and
leg press. Out of a possible 30 points for this
skills test, I have accumulated 4 (That’s without
bench press and leg press) and have had the in
structor say to me “Miss Lisa, we’re going to have
to work on you.” Thank God for passyTail.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
My sister just got out of a tap dance kinesiology
class that brought her the same humiliation, and
I’ve had friends in snow skiing and sailing share
with me their stories of humiliation as well.
So if learning how to deal with humiliation is
what I am supposed to be getting out of my kine
siology classes than it’s good to know that it’s
money well spent, plus. I’m actually starting to
get in shape along the way.
Who knows, by the end of the semester I might
actually be able to run a mile in seven minutes.
In the meantime, if you’re driving through cam
pus and see a group of people running and there’s
one person about 200 yards behind the rest, honk
and wave, it’s probably me!

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) —
One player was killed and five
others were injured, along with
their coach, when one of two
vans carrying the Indiana-Pur-
due-Indianapolis women’s bas
ketball team crashed on icy In

Shannon McPherson, the
starting point guard who
would have turned 21 on
Thursday, was thrown from
the van after it struck a medi
an and overturned on the way
back from a game at Indiana-
Southeast in New Albany
Tuesday night.
She was pronounced dead at
Columbus Regional Hospital.
“This has been a tragedy for

rector Hugh Wolf said
Wednesday.
