TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — In the lat
est evidence of a stunning intelligence
failure, the Shin Bet security agency
acknowledged Sunday that it had ad
vance information about thfe assassin
of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
In a court appearance, the con
fessed assassin's brother said he re-
- ceived weapons from a sergeant in an
elite army unit, who is the seventh der
tained suspect. The assassin's brother
was ordered held for 1 2 more days.
As the official mourning period
ended, more than 200,000 Israelis
streamed into newly named Yitzhak
Rabin Square in a defiant replay of the
peace rally where a Jewish extremist
shot down the prime minister eight
days before. It was believed to be the
biggest gathering ever in Israel.
Even as the square was filled with
flags, candles, cardboard doves and signs
reading "Enough Death," Israeli troops
began pulling out of the West Bank town
of Jenin, as provided by the autonomy
agreement signed by Rabin and PLO
chief Yasser Arafat in September.

like learning to snow ski.”
The process of artificial insemination, called AI, i n .
volves the student reaching into the cow through its’rec-
turn and arresting the cervix. A device called a French
straw gun is then threaded through the cervix, and a
thawed specimen of semen is inserted with the gun.
There are other methods of insemination, but the French
straw method is the main focus of the class because the
process is complex and requires a large amount of practice.
The class, composed mostly of junior and senior animal
science majors, practices its skills on a group of Jersey
and Holstein cows no longer used for milk production at
the dairy.
Dusty Kolle, a junior animal science major, said what
they do in a lab cannot truly be understood without having
experienced it.
“To really get a feel for what we do, you’d just have to
come out here with us and basically stick your hand up a
cow’s butt,” he said.
Kolle, who plans to work in the meat inspection and
grading industry, said the laid-back atmosphere of
Bluntzer’s class makes AI enjoyable to learn.
“A lot of the time, the informality that we have in the
class makes it seem more like a bunch of good oT boys sit
ting around and shootin’ the bull about what our cows are
doing,” he said.
Darla Marburger, a senior agricultural journalism ma
jor, said when Bluntzer is leading a structured lecture
things move pretty quickly.
“Dr. Bluntzer tends to move very fast when he’s using
overheads in class,” she said. “Sometimes we all get real
ly overwhelmed, and we have to get him to tell a story so
he’ll slow down and say a few words to entertain us while
we all catch up with him.”
Marburger, who plans to use the skills she is learning
in class on her own herd of cuttle, said Bluntzer knows
how to form a good relationship with his students. It is
his experience in the field that makes him valuable as a
teacher, she said.
“A lot of what we learn is learned not in class, but in the
lab,” she said. “You can know everything that there is to
know about AI, but experience and practice are the only
things that will make you a good technician.”
Loupot
Continued from Page t
Darling stressed how much Loupot tried to help students, in
cluding lending merchandise and money, based only on Aggie word.
“He was always willing to do so much for students,” he said.
“We’re mighty sad to see him go.”
A large portion of what is now the Dixie Chicken was once a
part of Loupot’s original store before it was moved to its current
location at 335 University Drive.
Don Ganter, Dixie Chicken owner, had a lot to say about Loupot.
“Have you got four or five days?” he asked. “For these past
40 or 50 years he’s just been a quintessential cheerleader for
Texas A&M.
“Whenever you meet him, you walk away with a smile. He was
just a real dynamic person. If anyone bled maroon, it was him.”
Ganter said Loupot was a positive, upbeat man who wanted
everyone around him to feel good.
“I don’t know what words to use,” he said. "He befriended every
Aggie that came through the door. Gosh, he just never met anyone
he didn’t like.”
John Raney, Texas Aggie bookstore owner, said that while he
was building his store to compete with Loupot’s store, 01’ Army
Lou would often bring him drinks and talk to him.
"He was a friendly guy and a good friend," Raney said.
Shri Parchure, textbook manager for Loupot’s at Northgate,
said the passing is still unbelievable.
I am in shock, Parchure said. “On one hand, we knew it was
going to happen. He was 85 years old. He had lived a very full life.
When it happens, it really hits you.”
Parchure said he has known Ixiupot for the last 16 or 17 years
and has observed many examples of Loupot’s generosity.
“He used to help A&M students in any way that he could,"he
said. He did so many little things for so many students that you
couldn’t even count them.”
Funeral services for Loupot will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 11
a.m. at A&M United Methodist church. Loupot will be build at
the College Station City Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Old Army Lou Student Assis
tance Program, care of Agricultural Development Office, 113 Ad
ministration Building, College Station, Texas, 77843-2142.
