By Philip Leone The Battalion 2 Burgers 2 Fries 2216 S. TX (Bryan) 202 SW Pkwy (College Station) In the last regular season home game of their careers, se niors Corie Hammers, Amanda Malburg, and Carrie Wheeler went out in style on Sunday af ternoon as the Texas A&M soccer team pounded Stephen F. Austin State University 10-0 at the Ag gie Soccer Complex. After being honored with roses before the game from their coach es and teammates, Hammers and Malburg brightened an already special day by scoring their first goals of the season during the match. Of course, just about everyone got on the board in this rout of the outgunned and over matched Lady Jacks. Hammers gave the Lady Ag gies the early lead in the game’s 16th minute when she zipped an easy shot past the outstretched SFA goalkeeper. Sophomore for ward Bryn Blalack increased the A&M lead to 2-0 with her 19th goal of the season on a break away seven minutes later. Fresh man forward Nicole Shook scored the first of her three goals with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. Freshman mid fielder Misty Trujillo closed out the first half A&M of domination with her first goal of the season to bring the halftime score to 4-0. Unfortunately for the Lady Jacks, the second half proved to be even worse, as A&M scored six more goals for the easy win. The player of the game for A&M was Shook, who grabbed her first career hat trick and tied the team record for assists in a game with three. Shook was all smiles after the game and credit ed her outstanding scoring day to the combined efforts of her fellow forwards. “I was able to get into great scoring position all day long be- Texas A&M freshman Nicole Shook moves the ball on her way It first goal of the day against Stephen F. Austin University Sunday, cause all the forwards really worked well together in the mid- field,” Shook said. “I wasn’t aware that I tied the assist record, but that just makes me even happier than I already am.” A&M Head Coach G. Guerrieri had nothing by positive things to say about his team after the game and was already looking forward to this Wednesday’s Southwest Conference showdown with the undefeated Lady Mus tangs of Southern Methodist Uni versity. SMU was the preseason favorite to win the conference crown and is currently ranked at 1 he top of the NCAA Cette gion just ahead of the sen ranked Lady Aggies. “I’m especially prowll Corie (Hammers) andMn (Malburg) were abletoscort their final regular season game,” Guerrieri said."Act was nice to work some kinks out before ourgai week at SMU. “We’ve put ourselves ink sition we wanted to be inai beginning of the season-t« the first and only Southwest ference title and notch 15-win season.” REC SPORTS Intramurals • Fitness • Sport Clubs • Outdoor Adventures • Aquatics A Division of Student M*- Fitness Instructors WANTED!
