A s if we don’t have enough to
pay for already, it seems that
the powers that be have
found one more way to stick it to
the students.
That’s right, it’s time for another
pay-per-view Saturday for faithful
Aggie fans.
I don’t know if anyone has no
ticed, but the Aggie Football Team
aren’t exactly having the best sea
son this year.
Why should we just have this
rubbed in our faces by the cable
company charging us exorbitant
sums to watch the away games? It
may have been somewhat justified
for the Tech game.
Our reputation as a football
team, such as it is, and our fading
national championship hopes were
pinned on that game. I could under
stand pay-per-view privileges for
the Cotton Bowl or even the A&M-
t.u. game.
Those games offer the rivalry
and “big-game” atmosphere that
would be worthy of the $19.95 fee,
maybe. But the “rivalry” between
Baylor and A&M just isn’t worth it.
It should be obvious that stu
dents don’t have the time or the
money to be travel to every away
game.
It is just as well, though, since
the opposing schools never send
enough student tickets anyway.
It’s also interesting to note that
when the Aggies play the Universi
ty of Houston and Middle Ten
nessee State at Kyle Field, those
games will be on the pay channel,
too. There seem to be no limits to
the greediness of those in charge.
By doing some simple math, you
can see the four games that will be
shown on pay-per-view will cost in
excess of $80.
They will probably say that $80
doesn’t sound like such a high sum
since students usually get together
in big groups to watch the game.
But when you add in the ex
pense of barbecue and beverages, it
can add up to a little more than
most students make.
The athletic department is no
doubt profiting from this little ven
ture with the cable company, as if
the ticket price increase from two
years ago, the high-priced merchan
dise we inevitably buy or the little
Nike symbols on the players’ jer
seys are not enough.
The sad thing about this “Great
Cable Debate” is that there is no
one to debate it with.
These decisions seem to be made
without any input from the parties
that will be affected the most,
namely the students.
I find it offensive that we are be
ing penalized just to put a few more
dollars in the pocket of the athletic
department. There seems to be
something wrong when I have to
think about getting a second job
just so I can pay to watch my team
play football.

That was the No. 3 defense in the nation?
In perhaps the most perfect perfor
mance ever by a football team, the virtu
al Texas A&M Aggies crushed the Baylor
Bears 110-16 like Roseanne sitting on a
Styrofoam cooler.
Virtually no Aggie single-game record
went unbroken during the game as the
offense broke out of its scoring woes and
the defense made Bears an endangered
species in the Waco area.
When it was all said and done, the Ag
gies had outgained the Bears 951-174.
Baylor, with its talented running backs
including Jerod Douglas and Kalief
Muhammad, was held to a pathetic -19
yards rushing.
The offense was spearheaded by senior
quarterback Corey Pullig, who silenced
all possible critics for years to come with
the single-greatest passing performance
in club history.
Pullig completed 22-of-32 passes for
664 yards and eight touchdowns. The
yardage and the touchdown passes are
both new A&M records.
Perhaps the only performance more
amazing than Fkillig’s was turned in by
senior wide receiver Danny McCray.
Forever labeled as a track player in
cleats, McCray quite simply turned in
the greatest receiving performance in
NCAA history, catching 17 passes for 564
yards and seven touchdowns.
The previous A&M record for receiving
yards in a game was 250, the touchdown
mark was a pitiful three.
Leeland McElroy’s return to the lineup
was virtually overlooked by Fhillig and
McCray’s unbelievable days.
McElroy was very noticeable to Bay
lor’s defensive coordinator however, as
he rushed for 262 yards on 15 carries
and scored five touchdowns.
The Baylor defense really never knew
what hit them.
As amazing as the A&M offense was,
the defense was simply is usual out
standing self, constantly forcingth
Bears to go three-and-out on offensives:
ries, and recovering three fumbles wi
sacking Baylor quarterback Jamie
son three times and breaking up eigi
passes.
The game was well in hand by M
time with the Aggies holding a 42 ;
lead. But for once, the Aggie coachi:
staff showed no mercy on its opponent.
The offense continued to spreadtk
field, exposing a pathetically-thinBe:
secondary for big yardage.
With the fourth quarter beginnini
A&M led 63-10 and it became obviot
that the players wanted a shotattki
100-point barrier.
Again, the coaching staff respond:
uncharacteristically, telling the fo
team to retake the field and “go for it.'
Go for they did, thrice recovering
side kicks after touchdowns and scori’J
nearly at will.
With 1:51 left in the fourth quart:!
Pullig hit McCray on a 16-yard score
strike and the scoreboard flashed IOC
They went on to score 10 more points,
