PuIIig under threw receiver
Albert Connell, who had
zoomed past the LSU free
safety.
The missed touchdown
opportunity and resulting
interception sent Mr. Know-
it-All into a rant about how
things would be different if
Ducky Richardson were still
taking snap for the Aggies.
In truth, he wasn’t the
only member of the Twelfth
Man who voiced his nega
tive opinions concerning
Pullig, though he was the
only one loud enough to get
under my skin.
Badmouthing Pullig is
sort, of in vogue around this
campus, and is something I
think is a damn shame. So
what if Pullig didn’t play
the greatest game of his life,
going 14-for-29 for 127
yards versus LSU?
The only real problem
Pullig has ever had as
A&M’e quarterback is he
wears the number four in
stead of the number seven,
PuJlig has the rotten luck
of trying to fill the leg
endary Aggie boots of Cap
tain Ducky.
Ducky Richardson was a
good quarterback during his
run in Aggieland, and
everyone liked him because
he ran around a lot and
tried to knock somebody
over every once in a while.
Ducky was a gambler
who played like his pants
were on fire. He had that
confident swagger about
him, and was someone
whom students identified
with because they thought
there was a good chance
they might see him out
somewhere nursing a beer
or two after the ballgame. I
can’t think of anyone who
has as much popularity
pull with Aggies as
Richardson — not even Jer
ry Jeff Walker.
But Ducky is gone, and
in his place is an excellent
quarterback. Pullig won’t
win any awards for being
flashy. He simply plays
consistently, makes good
decisions and wins foot
ball games
A starter since the fifth
game of his freshman cam
paign, Pullig came into the
1995 season as the nation’s
winningest active quarter
back with a 24-3-1 record,

ing Pullig from overtaking
| Kevin Murray and David
Walker as the school’s all-
time winningest quarter
back is a win against the
mighty Golden Hurricanes
of Tulsa in two weeks.
Pullig is also within
reach of breaking career
school records in every pass
ing category. With just 20
interceptions over three sea
sons, the only category Pul
lig does not have a shot at is
the career interception
record of 40.
There’s no substitute for
a proven winner, and that’s
what Pullig is. He ain’t ex
actly Elvis, but Pullig has
the right attributes to lead
this Aggie squad all the way
to Tempe for the national
championship.

tell him to keep his mouth

The Battalion 845-2696
Continued from page 9
The game is being billed as
real college ball, and comes
pretty close. But there were
still some problems.
Leeland McElroy, the best
return man in college, has for
some reason been replaced on
kickoffs by tight end' Hay
ward Clay.
Also, speedsters such as
McElroy, Tommie Frazier of
Nebraska and Keyshawn
Johnson of Southern Califor
nia are constantly caught from
behind by defensive lineman.
Overall, College Football ’96 is
the best football video game
ever produced.
It is impossible to bring the
real game to the television,
but EA almost does it. This
time around, they put 99 per
cent of the game in the game.
