Playing in scorching 100-degree heat, the Lady Aggies battled back all af ternoon long and came away with a 7-4 victory in double overtime. “I think we started off a little overcon fident and didn’t play with the kind of in tensity that we should have,” said sopho more forward Bryn Blalack. “We woke up when they scored on us twice in the early part of the first period. We just stepped up our play a notch and dug deep and were able to come back and smoked them at the end.” Marquette controlled the tempo early on and took a quick lead with two goals in "I'm just really proud that we were able to pull together." — CP. Guerrieri A&M Soccer Coach the first 10 minutes of play. The Lady Aggies fought back and tied the match with two goals by Blalack, and junior for ward, Kristin Koop. However, Marquette slipped another goal in the net with just over eight minutes left in the first period to take a 3-2 advantage at halftime. The Lady Aggies returned with a vengeance in the second half, and quickly tied the score at three goals apiece in the game’s 62nd minute with Koop’s second of the day. The score remained dead locked for the remainder of regulation play and forced the game into a 15 minute overtime period where Marquette immediately took a 4-3 lead. However, the Lady Aggies fought back once again and forced the game into a second over time when senior midfielder Corie Ham mers punched in a three yard goal off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Sonia Ibanez. With the sun at its hottest and fighting fatigue, the Lady Aggies knocked in three consecutive goals within a five-minute span to send the Golden Eagles back lime with a 7-4 defeat. Jamie Csizmadia began the Aggie rally with a header off of a beautifully placed corner kick assist from midfielder Diana Rowe. Minutes later, junior forward Yvette Okler followed Csizmadia’s goal with a scoring blast of her own. Freshman forward Nicole Shook ended the Aggie scoring with her first career goal. “It’s tough when you spot a good team like Marquette two goals. You hate to put yourself in a hole like that to begin with,” said Guerrieri. “I’m just really proud that we were able to pull together and come back on four different occasions throughout the match. That really illus trates the importance of the team concept and believing in one another.” The Lady Aggies travel to Plano today to face the University of Arkansas Razor- backs in a Central Region matchup. After Sunday’s difficult match, Guerrieri is con cerned about the lack of time to rest. “Arkansas is a quality club, and I’m re ally worried if we can recover physically from the heat in time to play at our usual level,” Guerrieri said. “Eighteen hours in between games is not a whole lot of time to rest.” MSC Leadership Positions Available j.u ^rr Vice President of Training Director of Marketing and Research Analysis Chair, Committee for the Awareness of Mexican American Culture Director of Financial Procedures Director of Financial Planning and Analysis Black Awareness Committee, Director of Finance BAG Applications are due September 8, 1995.
