Typing cheerleader a day after a Detroit woman went to his home and told him he had giv en her genital herpes, a lawyer said Monday. But an attorney representing the NBA star in a federal law suit brought by the Atlanta woman said there is no evidence that Rodman has ever had a transmittable form of the incur able disease. Lisa Beth Judd, 24, is suing Rodman for unspecified damages. She claims Rodman, with whom she’d had an on-and-off relation ship since 1991, gave her herpes on Jan. 14, 1993, when he came to Atlanta as a member of the De troit Pistons. Her lawyer, Mark Trigg, said Rodman had told her the night he gave her herpes that he was ready to get serious about their relationship. “That was exactly what Lisa had hoped he would say,” Trigg said in opening arguments to the eight-woman, two-man jury. “Lisa loved Dennis Rodman. Lisa trusted Dennis Rodman.” BABYSITTER Position Available. Must love children, be dependable & energetic. Early childhood education major preferred. Part-time, 20-30 hrs/wk. The usually flamboyant Rod- man, who came to court wearing a green jacket and dark slacks but no tie, had given herpes to two other women about two weeks earlier, Trigg said. Swift Continued From Page 2 the Lakers, the Kings and the Dodgers. Those three teams were all champions built around superstars. Los Angeles is a town of flash, and its pro sports teams re flect that. It’s the home of Magic, Ka- reem, Gretzky and Lasorda. Associating names like Aaron Wallace, Anthony Smith and Jeff Hostetler with L.A. is like forcing a square peg into a round hole. Los Angeles is the type of town that needs the fast-paced flash of the “Showtime” Lak ers, the All-American, under dog role of the 1988 Dodgers or the sheer greatness of the Gretzky-led Kings. The bottom line is that the L.A. glitz never meshed with the rough-and-tumble sport of football. The Rams were never anything spectacular and faded into the haze of L.A. sports, and the Raiders’ “Just win, baby” style just didn’t seem to fit in the fash ionable city of angels. Raider football can best be equated with the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons of 1989-91. The Pistons and Raiders ex uded the machismo, blue-col lar attitude that caused them to be revered by the peasants and reviled by the princes. The word through the grapevine is that the NFL is trying to get another fran chise into Los Angeles as soon as possible. Several teams, including the Cardi nals, Bengals, Browns, Red skins and Seahawks, have shown interest in moving to Southern California. Why wouldn’t they? On pa per, L.A. seems like the moth er lode for an NFL team. Tele vision revenues and ticket sales could be staggering, and all a team would have to do is play winning football to keep the coffers full. Uh, oh. There’s the catch. For an NFL team to survive in Los Angeles, they have to win. That’s something that the teams ready to move to L.A. have had little success with in recent years. If the team doesn’t start winning immediately, it might very well get swallowed up by better sports franchises like the up-and-coming Lakers. Why give L.A. a team, anyway? After the Raiders announced their move back to Oakland, local fans swamped radio stations with fond farewells. Many said they will enjoy getting to see the better games that they never had a chance to see in past years because local stations were required to broadcast Rams’ and Raiders’ away games. Let L.A. have the Lakers, Dodgers and the Kings. I’ll take the Raiders in Oakland any old day. IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR Sportswriters & Photographers Call 845-3313 or come by 013 Reed McDonald. (AP) — Long on potential, short on stars. This year’s NBA draft has no consensus No. 1 pick, like Glenn Robinson last year. What makes this year’s draft hard to figure out is, none of the likely top five picks — all 20 years old or younger — have fully developed games. Here, then, is a rundown of how the selections might shake out: 1. Golden State — Joe Smith, 6-10, forward, Maryland ... New Warriors GM Dave Twardzik de cides to go for an inside force with good range. Needs time to develop, but will help Warriors fill the void left by Chris Web ber’s departure. 2. Philadelphia —Jerry Stack- house, 6-6, guard. North Carolina ... The 76ers make a deal with the Clippers to trade up one spot and grab a player being hyped as the next Michael Jordan. 3. Los Angeles Clippers — An tonio McDyess, 6-9, forward, Al abama ... Stock soared after strong performance in NCAA tournament. Athletic player who’s a good defender will get a chance to learn the game from coach Bill Fitch. 4. Washington — Rasheed Wallace, 6-10, center. North Car olina ... With Webber’s great hands and Wallace’s ability to run the floor, the two will form an impressive front line and the Bullets should make a quant leap forward. 5. Minnesota — Kevin GrJ nett, 6-10, forward, Farrar (Chicago) HS ... The Timbejj wolves gamble on a 19-year with loads of promise as wel loads of immaturity. Butr Wolves GM Kevin McHale is ideal person to help shape him 6. Vancouver — Ed O’Bam 6- 8, forward, UCLA ... Concerj about his arthritic knee notwi standing, O’Bannon has the ck acter and the skills to form an cellent foundation for an exff sion franchise. 7. Toronto — Bryant Reev 7- 0, center, Oklahoma State Big Country comes to the Gre White North. Best true center the draft. 8. Detroit — Cherot Parks, 6-11, center, Duke The Blue Devil connection is work here, reuniting Parks art; Grant Hill to play form coach-GM Doug Collins, wte son was also a college tea r mate. 9. New Jersey — ShawnR f: pert, 6-3, guard, Michip State ... Nets need a shootfe guard, and Respert is a gre shooter. But his lackofsb gives the Nets one of tt league’s smallest backcourts 10. Miami — Kai Thomas, 6-9, forward, Tes Christian ... The NCAA’s leak in both scoring and rebound:: he gives Miami a young altsf, native to Kevin Willis atpotf forward.
