the sprawling monster called
Hurricane Allison barreled to
ward their shores.
The first hurricane of the
1995 season moved across the
Gulf of Mexico on Sunday and
was expected to come ashore be
fore 9 a.m. today.
Allison, packing torrential
rains and 75 mph winds, was
expected to make landfall near
Panama City, according to Lix-

"This one doesn’t seem as if
it’s going to be as strong as
some hurricanes have been in
the past,” Tallahassee real es

hopefully.

But like hundreds of others, Stafford wasn’t
taking a chance. He left his vacation home in Shell

At 5 a.m., Allison’s center was near 29.3 north
latitude and 85.5 west longitude, about 40 miles
southwest of Apalachicola, a Franklin Cow
town about 50 miles southwest of Tallahassee.
The hurricane was moving north at 14 m;
forecasters said.
