ARF: Task force proposes MSC artwork diversity l " d
Continued from Page 1
Our college graduate
program -- Extra
Credit ‘95 — offers
qualified ‘93, ‘94 and.
‘95 college graduates,
grad students and stu
dents within six
months of graduation
cash back on the pur
chase or lease of any
new Chrysler
Corporation vehicle —
that’s in addition to
any other national
consumer incentives*.
And don’t let your lack
of funds bum you out.
Chrysler Credit has a
variety of programs
you may qualify for --
even without estab
lished credit.
Other artwork recommenda
tions would add more artwork to
the meeting rooms of the MSC
and Rudder complex walls, which
are virtually without artwork.
“We believe there is a great
opportunity for the students of
this university, and its staff and
visitors, that is being missed to
be educated because of this,” the
task force proposal said.
The task force recommended
decorating these areas with mu
rals depicting the campus’ differ
ent student groups and cultures.
Patrick Conway, MSC Council
president and member of the
task force, said the task force
also noted that although most
students enter the MSC through
the east entrance, the north side
has all the information about the
building’s dedication.
“Twenty years ago, most stu
dents entered the building
through the main entrance by
the hotel desk,” Conway said.
“But now everyone enters from
the east side because of Rudder,
the Koldus building and how it’s
all arranged now.
“This entrance is kind of
bland and empty. It would be a
good idea to put something
about the dedication there where
most people enter.”
Other recommendations
include:
• placing a statue of
Matthew Gaines, an African-
American and former U.S. sen
ator who helped found A&M, in
the University Center.
• creating an updated text
detailing the entire University
Center collection, the historyo;
the holdings and theit
significance.
• advertising in The Battai
ion about additions ani
changes to the building or hav
ing trivia contests.
• reserving a wall in the MSC
to recognize student accomplisk
ments and organizations.
•placing video monitors
around the University Center
showing short clips of campus
programs.
• adding a wall of traditions
to the MSC where artist depic
tions of traditions can demon
strate to visitors what it means
to have the human Aggie spirit.
• relocating the eight Medal
of Honor winner plaques to one
location where they wouldbe
centered around a description n 1
the award.
