Rogers scored 20 points and Brian Williams added 15 points and 13 rebounds as the Nuggets atoned for an overtime defeat to the Mavericks with an 89-80 NBA victory on Thursday night. The Nuggets, who snapped a three-game losing streak, were still smarting from the 124-123 loss to the Mavericks last Satur day when Denver blew a 25- point lead at home. “We really wanted this one bad,” said Rogers, who also helped limit Dallas forward Ja mal Mashburn to a season-low eight points. “They came into our home and took one away from us.” The Nuggets, who were with out injured starters Reggie Williams and Bryant Stith, halted the Mavericks’ three- game winning streak. Denver overcame 29 turnovers with a defense that contributed to Dal las’ 30-for-96 shooting. “We had to take this game personally,” said Nuggets center Dikembe Mutombo, who had 13 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. “This wasn’t like a regular-season game because a rebuilding team like Dallas came into our house and beat us. When you get embarrassed in your house, you’ve got to take it personally.” Dallas pulled to within 86-80 with 1:22 to play oh Jim Jack son’s basket but that was as close as the Mavericks would come. Mutombo slammed the door on the Mavs with a key blocked shot against Jackson with 53 seconds left. “That was a staggering loss last weekend that we weren’t going to forget,” Williams said. “We needed to be better under takers and nail the coffin tight. We couldn’t let that happen again. If we did, we would have been finding our own rides back to Denver.” Rockets win over Warriors OAKLAND, (AP) — Hakeem Olajuwon had 37 points, 13 re bounds and a career-high 12 as sists as the Houston Rockets de feated the Golden State War riors 113-109 Thursday night. Robert Horry added 16 points and eight assists for the Rock ets, the first NBA team to win 11 games this season. Latrell Sprewell had 30 points and Tim Hardaway had 27 for the War riors, who have lost five of six, The Rockets, who have an NBA-best 7-1 road mark this season, have won seven straight against the Warriors. Olajuwon left the game with 1:45 left when he hurt his right hand falling into a row of cam eramen behind the court. He cut his hand and sprained his wrist, but the Rockets said neither in jury appeared serious. Olajuwon, who did not need any stitches, said his wrist was more sore than his hand. He complained about the closeness of the cameramen to the court. “They have to make some new rules,” Olajuwon said, “That’s too dangerous for them to be that close to the floor.” Olajuwon had his first triple double of the season by the end of the third quarter, when he had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 as sists. It was his 10th career triple-double, four of which have come against Golden State. He finished with 13-of-l9 shooting and made 11 of 14 free throws. He also had three steals and two blocked shots. He had 18 points in the final quarter. Houston guard Vernon Maxwell had to be wrestled off the floor by teammates and coaches when he was ejected with 9:10 left after being called for a technical foul, whistled for a flagrant foul and called for another technical within a matter of seconds. Maxwell motioned toward referee Gary Benson, who called the second technical, and was restrained by coach Rudy Tom- janovich, assistant coach Larry Smith and teammates. Smith forced him off the court, where he stood for a minute shouting and pointing at Benson. The Rockets led 60-53 at halftime and stretched that lead to 16 points as the Warriors missed their first seven shots of the third quarter. But Hard away had 10 points as Golden State pulled within 84-77 by the end of the period.
