Page 4 • The Battalion Dancing ban lifted TRUMANN, Ark. (AP) — You can drink and shake a leg in Trumann now, but you better keep your fists to yourself. The City Council lifted a 21- year-old ban on dancing at three taverns where alcohol is served. However, Alderman Donnie Taylor warned that the bars could lose their dancing privi leges if patrons throw punches instead of kicking up their heels. Jerry’s Tavern owner Jerry Pillow, who proposed lifting the ban, acknowledged that dancing and drinking years ago created problems, including fights. That’s all in the past. “Dancing should not be against the law, but the police should be allowed to stop it if there is fighting,” Pillow said. The council lifted the ban Nov. 14 in a 9-1 vote. The town has only four taverns; the owner of one wasn’t interested in al lowing dancing. Man convicted of murder while sleepwalking BUTLER, Pa. (AP) — A man who told police he woke up with a .357 Magnum in his hand and his wife bleeding to death in the bed beside him was convicted of murder. A jury Friday rejected Michael Ricksgers’ claim that a sleep disorder caused him to shoot his wife, Janet. Ricksgers said he was sleepwalking when he fired the shot Dec. 26, and might have been dreaming that someone was trying to break into the house. Ricksgers, 37, faces up to life in prison. No sentencing date was set. Two doctors called by the defense said sleep apnea, a dis order that affects millions, could have caused Ricksgers to shoot his wife. A psychiatrist testifying for prosecutors said it was unlikely. Sleep apnea occurs when a person’s nasal passages relax so much that they close and in terrupt breathing for up to a minute. The sleeper typically snorts, gasps for air and may act strangely. The disorder affects millions of people, according to a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine.
