Bonfire pages.
The pages include the latest
photo of the stack and a history
of the Bonfire.
“University Relations provid
ed a brief history of Bonfire,”
Ambrose said. “From the
Archives in Evans Library, we
a picture of the first Bonfire
and the first all-log Bonfire.”
The majority of messages re
ceived has been positive, but
some have been negative, Am
brose said.
Some negative remarks
came from ecology conscience
people regarding the smoke
and the burning wood,” he said.
‘We’ve had some negative com
ments from students at the
University of Texas.”
He said that some of the
comments from Texas students
have been cute.
“They thought that it was a
neat idea,” Ambrose said.
They applauded our efforts.
They said that they hope that
we pay as much special atten
tion to the score. They also sug-
ed that we focus a camera
on the score board, since the
game isn’t televised.”
Sparks came up with the
idea after he viewed the “vir
tual coffee pot” in Cambridge,
England. Ambrose said he
then thought that Bonfire
could be broadcast across the
Internet.
“Then I thought, heck, let’s
show the building of Bonfire,”
he said. “That gives us more
time to publicize and gain
more interest.”
More interest has been
gained and even renewed in
Aggie Bonfire.
“We’ve had former Aggies
in Croatia, England, Aus
tralia, Seattle, Indiana and
from NASA access the pages,”
Ambrose, said. “They said
that being away from A&M,
they had lost sight of Bonfire.
But seeing it again in the In
ternee renewed their enthusi
asm for A&M.”
Even with all the enthusi
asm, there are not any future
plans for the football game to
be broadcast in cyberspace, but
there are other ideas being dis
cussed.
"The idea has shown to be
sound,”Sparks said. “There is
some speculation for other
programs.”
He said that there has been
talk of putting a camera on the
topofthe Academic Building.
‘People could click in and
see the weather at A&M,”
Sparks said.
There are other programs
that are in the Internee, Am-
tros, said. There is access to
the electronic phone book and
the master calendar, “The Fort
nightly.” Also, 15 to 20 depart
ments across campus have
their own Web servers. The
departments then offer infor
mation specifically about their
own department.
