Bush, according to a poll published Wednesday. The poll, conducted for The Houston Post and Houston television station KHOU, found that Richards was favored by 46.76 percent of voters or likely voters. Bush was favored by 43.94 percent. The survey included 517 people, including some who had already cast early ballots, and was conducted Oct. 22-27. The margin of error is 4 percent, making Richards’ slight lead statisti cally insignificant. A Houston Post-KHOU poll conducted in Sep tember also had the two in a virtual tie, but with Richards then holding a 1.6-point lead compared to her current 2.8-point advantage. In Harris County, the state’s most populous, Bush has lost a 2.5-point advantage he held in September, according to the poll. Richards now leads in the county by 1.6 points. The most recent poll, supervised by Rice Universi ty political scientist Bob Stein, was conducted before Ross Perot’s endorsement of Richards on Tuesday. However, 74 percent of the respondents said an endorsement from Perot would make no difference in their vote. Only 9.9 percent said backing from Perot would make them more likely to vote for a candidate, while 13.3 percent said it would make them less likely to support the candidate. The poll found runaway races for other statewide posts. Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison led Democratic challenger Richard Fisher 55.72 per cent to 28.03 percent statewide. Incumbent Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock held a commanding lead — 56.72 KHOU Voters Poll Texas Gubernatorial Race Gov. A sampling of guides shows that in the overwhelming major ity of cases, it is the Republican candidate whose views are most in line with those espoused by the coalition. “We know the rules and we play by them,” said coalition spokesman Mike Russell. The guides and weekend tele phone prodding of Christian con servative voters are the final in stallment on a $5 million Christ ian Coalition election effort that included 10 million guides for primary races and 17 million congressional scorecards. The voting guides are shipped to state chapters in mid-October but the national headquarters has ordered that they not be dis tributed to churches and Christ ian bookstores until the Sunday before Election Day. One reason is that the guides are viewed as a timely reminder to vote. Another is that Christian Coalition leaders worry about candidate complaints. “You want to hold it until that last Sunday because if they start raising doubts about the voter guide you’re going to have a real skittish pastor that is just going to pull them,” Christian Coali tion voter education director Chuck Cunningham told a Sep tember coalition strategy session with state affiliates. In Oklahoma, Democratic House candidate Stuart Price says the guide is full of “mis- truths” about his views on abortion, school prayer and homosexuality, and he has urged Tulsa churches not to distribute it. The Democratic candidates for governor and lieutenant gov ernor in South Carolina have complained that their views on abortion are distorted, and school board candidates in New Hampshire have criticized the guides as inaccurate. .amp :A cable tc / station, d Bn ire rol Egypt, i percent to 16.07 percent over Republican Tex Lezar statewide. Democratic Attorney General Dan Morales was supported by 49.91 percent in the latest poll, com pared with 20.69 percent for Republican state Dis trict Judge Don Wittig. Asked about the poll during a San Marcos cam paign stop Tuesday, Richards said she has sensed a shift in her direction. “I have seen a real shift and turnaround about the past 10 days to two weeks. You can’t define what it is, but I think experience makes a lot of difference,” she said. Bush, meanwhile, said he was undaunted by the findings. Aggie Spirit is exemplified in our burning desire to beat the hell outta t.u., and the Bonfire represents months of sweat, tears, camaraderie and determination. The unfortunate incident of the past week may have slowed us down, but could not extinguish our Aggie Spirit. These last seven days stand as an example of our will to overcome and defeat all odds. Aggies from all over the campus, county and state have put differences aside and contributed time, money and support for the pre-eminent symbol of the Fightin’ Texas Aggies. We could not have asked for better support, but I didn’t expect anything less. The Corps also would like to ask for the help of the Aggie family. At 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, approximately 1800 cadets will march right down Congress Avenue in the heart of Austin culminating on the steps of the Capital. We would like to invite all motivated Aggies to come support the Corps as we enter into the midst of the t-sips and display our Aggie pride. It would be wonderful to turn Austin into an Aggie headquarters. Imagine the reaction of the distraught t-sips as the Aggie Corps and the Aggie family enter their front door and demonstrate what it means to be a Fightin’ Texas Aggie. The Corps will need the help of all students, faculty/staff and former students as we take to the streets of our enemy. It would be an exciting moment for us all to have a large number of Aggies backing our efforts and supporting our team. Once again, the Corps issues a resounding “Gig ‘em” for a job well done and asks all Aggies to come out and support us as we take to the streets of Austin. The Corps march in starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5th down Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas. All Aggies are invited and welcome. GIG ‘EM AND BEAT THE HELL OUTTA t.u !!!
