Mini-Olympics start with ban

The competition is heating up as all clubs
within the International Students Associa
tion (ISA) take part in the organization’s
Mini-Olympics.
“The Mini-Olympics are just like the
Olympics on a smaller scale,” Patricia Jaar,
ISA president, said.
Opening ceremonies were held last week
end at Rudder Fountain.
“It was really neat,” Jaar said. “The inter
national students paraded down the steps of
Rudder Tower with their countries’ flags and
assembled at Rudder Fountain.”
Dr. Charles Lee, interim executive vice
president and provost, gave the Olympics’
opening speech.
The Olympic Games will last until the
last weekend of October and will conclude
with an awards ceremony.
“I think that everything is going great,”
Dalibor Vuckoric, director of the Mini-
Olympics, said. “With 33 organizations,
there are between 700 and 800 people
signed up.”
Some of the larger clubs will have ath
letes in all the events.
“The Chinese club and the Mexico club
will have more athletes than some of the
smaller clubs,” Vuckoric said.
The closing ceremonies are going to be
held at Aftershock next Friday.
“The awards ceremony will be combined
with the International Students Associa
tions’ Halloween Party,” Vuckoric said.
“This is almost 95 percent positive.”
The party starts at 10 p.m. and the
awards will follow, given between 11 p.m.
and midnight.
“At the end the country that wins the
most events gets a trophy,” Jaar said.

The Legislative Tracking
Committee is a new Texas A&M
Student Government committee
created to ensure that legislation
passed by the Student Senate is
implemented, rather than filed
away and forgotten.
Brooke Leslie, student body
president, created the commit
tee, but said it was not her idea.
“The Student Senate passes a
lot of legislation that is filed
away and never looked into,”
Leslie said. “I’m putting a com
mittee together to follow up on
the legislation, and they will
meet once or twice a month to
check up on it.”
Jeb Jones, Student Senate
representative to the Faculty
Senate, said LTC was basically
set up to find bills that action
was not taken on by the admin
istration or were never seen by
the administration.
“Sometimes, after we pass a
bill in Student Senate, we forget
it has to be implemented by the
administration,” he said.
Leslie said the goal of the
LTC is simply to make sure the
Senate is doing everything in its
power.
“The committee will take the
issues back up and work on

them,” she said. “They will look
up past ideas and issues.”
Rob Holland, LTC chairman,
said an example of a forgotten
bill is the q-drop bill that would
allow students to drop nine
hours instead of three classes.
“Students who drop a one-
hour P.E. class use a whole q-
drop,” Holland said. “Other ex
amples would be legislation that
was passed providing on-campus
day care and putting covers on
the bus stops,” he said.
Leslie said there are nine peo
ple on the committee.
“They were chosen by the dif
ferent committees of Student
Senate,” she said.
Holland said there w
senators from the studenij
